I don't think their teams are as reliant on one chassis maker to be competitive....It almost seems like things are hopeless if you don't have a McColl chassis at Delaware, whereas Flamboro allows for Fletcher, McColl, Port City and homebuilt cars to be competitive....
Shadowracer - Rumor has it there will be a few Flammy cars coming out to Delaware this Friday. I know we (#37) plan to be there as long as we survive the 100-lapper tomorrow night at Flamboro.
I think Flamboro has the saturday thing going for them, the bigger purse, and the fact that its just plain fun to race there.
As far as the Mcoll deal goes. It does help that he's at the track every week to lend a helping hand if needed. That type of support doesn't come with the other builders. If you look at the Mods, Starr has one in a home built car and of course Mr. Cox has always spanked em with his home built machine.
By the way good job lately Jamie, I haven't had a chance to talk to you at the track. Give me a call, we should get out for a couple cold ones and I can pick your brain. lol
Teams that race at Flamboro often comment that it's "fun" to race at Flamboro, but they are not always specific about what the attraction is. I wonder if it's just by comparison to Delaware?
From the Flamboro web site here are their LM car counts:
June 9 - 26 Cars
June 16 - 18 cars
June 30 - 18 cars
July 7 - 24 boosted by regular Delaware Cars (4, 43, 86, 91, 48)
The trend has been slightly downward since the start of the season, despite a roster of 36 cars. Only one London car is a regular at Flamboro and he told us that was because the Delaware cars "are too fast".
Saturday night racing is good for some, but we like Friday's at Delaware - it leaves the weekend open for other things.
While I can't speak for all the Flammy teams, I can say that Shadow and Racer43 hit the nail in the head - Saturday makes the difference...at least for us.
We spend our Saturdays either putting the car on display at one of the sponsor's locations or working at the shop until mid-afternoon, then heading over to the track. When we run Delaware this Friday, it will mean working all day, picking up the trailer at the shop, driving 1 1/2 to 2 hrs (if traffic is good) and hope to make it to the track in time to get in one set of hot laps before the heats start - a bit more stressful than the Saturday routine!
Having said that, we always enjoy the racing at Delaware and hope to make it out a couple more times this summer.
