There's a number of things Varney has going for it that other tracks should take notice of. The main one being the sheer unpretentious-ness of the place...that's what I liked about it. Trains, camper races etc...and no one apologizes for it.

Just good clean fun to be had on a Saturday night...as weekly racing was meant to be. I only hope the new track revamp doesn't transpire into a new "serious" attitude behind the way the races are presented.

Shadow you are so right with your comments. The first time i seen the train races,i almost pissed myself laughing!Going to have to see the camper races,i see on tv, alot of tracks down south are doing them.
Ive heard the stories about old westgate speedway with the stuntman jumping the back pond,i would of loved to seen that.

Absolutely Shadow. They even have a track slogan "Hillbilly Racing"
When I took my 5 year old to see the trailer race, he had a great time. If you ask him about that race, you'd better be prepared to listen to him talk about it for 15 minutes!
The fact is, that drivers take this sport extremely seriously. Fans on the other hand, just come out for a good time. When tracks cater to the drivers too much, the whole atmosphere becomes too serious, and both the drivers and the fans suffer. Those of you who have been posting on here a few years, might remember my "stock car racing is magic" thread, about stock car racing in the U.K.  and this is exactly what tracks in the old country seem to have figured out. You have to remember that 60% or better of the fans that show up on any given Saturday night, don't have a clue about who is leading the points, or have ever heard of most of the drivers that they are watching! The points and the competition alone are simply not enough to keep the vast majority of the fans, especially the family's, coming back week after week. They need something more, such as Chaos Cars, or Train Races, or Trailer Races. This is what tracks need to figure out if they are to have any hope of filling the stands on a regular basis, and Varney is case in point.

The old track was really rough and worn out,iam glad that they are changing the track and re-paving,the owner himself told me this last year, and he is a man of his words. This will be one of the few with open wheel modifieds running weekly, last i heard was mosport is done and it may be a dirt track. ::) ::) ::)

Iam really surprized that no one is talking about what Varney is doing to the track, and yes eightball they have dozers and dump trucks...lol
This is great news for racing in Ontario!!

Sounds great to me as well but are they going to join the 21st century and allow 16 v mini stocks ?  I hear Barrie will be 16 v next year , finally .
