looking at the mini payoffs...last at varney pays $50, that is double flamboro...plus $7 cheaper to get in the pits i believe...X3 people that extra money saved and the payoff is almost the extra gas to get there....but an extra 3 hrs in driving time, and time is sometimes more important than anything...
I'm gonna jump in here - but only as an opinion and maybe a wee bit of a vent that no doubt will sound like it's an attack. I'm really amazed at how many people are willing and able to pay to race, while a promoter / track owner is attempts to make a profit (and every year seems to pay their bills) on the very community of people it requires for it to work. Compensation and rewards to the teams has not increased anywhere near costs associated with its "product".
We don't see our costs holding or staying the same, in order to run a car. How promoters can not recognize and start to realize these considerations is beyond me. This is not F1, NASCAR, Rolex where its big money teams that can rely upon sponsorship to attend events.
Promoters need to work harder gaining their own sponsorships, attract new fans and not continue to rely upon the backgate to keep their tracks open. There's gonna come a time when this business model is going to explode in their face and pay the ultimate price if the practice continues. In my opinion, many track ownesr treat the track as a part time job / investment. Fine, but then expect in kind results and ultimately the quality of your product.
I still shake my head in disgust at the disaster that has wiped out Cayuga and Race City in Calgary. It can be done with the two best examples being Sunset here in Ontario and Riverside Speedway in Antigonish. It's clear, invest in your facilities, attract high value (by working VERY hard at it) sponsorships, put in place a quality race set of rules, the results will bring quality race cars that can sustain the venue over the long haul.
Just sayin...........*koff*
Once again, some real positive feedback here on CRO.
Varney is trying to keep costs down and even the playing field. Sorry you don't agree with the changes that are being made, many of which won't be realized until drivers show up and, many of which don't have anything to do with class rules but, the fact remains we are taking steps to bring our track up to par with others. We can't make the leap all in one year.
It continues to blow me away when you try to make steps in a positive direction, you get some hothead blowing up the joint. No one hase a gun to your head racefan2010. You don't have to come. not everytrack is the same and, for some drivers, it's not all about the highest payout...it's about the track, the fans, the staff....we still got em covered there.
Well if you have no cars you will not have a track, fans or staff . up payouts = more cars. Better racing not (hillbilly s#!t racing) varney has.
And your fall classic is the time as sunset's . Your APM special is the same night as sauble's that is a points night for Delaware good work varney and good luck
Off the top of my head, I believe our payouts are loaded through the field. While other tracks may pay more to win, we pay a bit more further through the field. Again, this is working model that we hope to fine tune this season.
As ar as what you call "hillbilly shit racing", they have raised nearly $10 000 dollars over the last few years for Special Oympics. If you're calling out the racing in general at Varney, then you obviously haven't been there for a while. Those who have will tell you that, Varney is as competitive as ever.
I love how some guys get on here and talk like they have all the answers when in fact, they have no idea what is involved with running a racetrack. All you want is higher payouts. Sure, drivers need to be fairly and adequately compensated but, they are not the only expense that needs to be carried every week. There needs to be a common ground.
Our schedule is "tentative". This is something you would have seen had you taken the time to actually read it.
I'm not sure what you have against our track given that you apparently don't even run or attend there so, perhaps we should just leave it at this and go on our separate ways.
.
FYI,
Sauble's Open Wheel Modified Invitational is on Saturday July 2nd. Varney is running the modifieds on Friday July 1st. Mods are off on Saturday so that they can run Sauble.
As far as our Fall Classic goes, not everyone is going to want to try their luck against Sunset regulars and may want an opportunity at some money and win at Varney.
Remember, we had the date first until Sunset decided to add the Velocity last year. With only so many weekends in a summer, something has to overlap. Too bad Sunset wasn't willing to "work with other tracks". We may not get the car counts that they will get for their fall special but, we will give drivers; who want to race for some money and a win; another option where the deck may not be stacked so badly against them.

i noticed it just says clarke for tech is he doing it alone this year
