2009 was our highest regular ministock car count since about 2004.The biggest problem with adding 16v is they would need their own class ....

16 v cars dont need thier own class Melonhorst and Butler are the fastast SOHC cars in Ontario and both are 12 v cars that are Varney legal right now and are faster then any 16 v car .

Weight rules change the picture alot.
At Sunset, 16v Hondas, 12v Nissans, and 8v mustangs have to weigh 2300 driver in. It'd be a miracle if a stock mustang (or any other 8v) ever won a feature under these rules as they are about 50hp behind. Top ten in points, nissan 240, 8 hondas, and a mustang.
At Barrie, 95hp Mustangs and 145hp Nissans weigh about the same (25 and 2600), with the 8 and 12v Hondas getting to be lighter, (there is no minimum listed, do 1.8 hondas get to be 2000 lbs, 1.6 1800?). (Stock 8 and 12 v Hondas are about 70-105hp) Again, the way the rules are written, a stock mustang has no chance.
The above is based on the assumption that the motors are stock as is written in the rules and i make no judgement as to whether that is the case or not.
Stock vs. stock, there is no way 8 and 12v (with the exception of the 240) can competatively race together without substantial weight differences written into the rules. Using the 240 as proof that everyone can run together is a stretch as that 2.4l nissan is a pure beast of a motor

you just explained exactly why not to build a mustang. yet most people still manage to ???

i think that going dohc 16v is wrong. if this comes in place so will the 97-01 preludes that make 190-200hp stock out of a dohc 16v 2.2l.  http://consumerguideauto.howstuffworks.com/1997-to-2001-honda-prelude-8.htm

now there will be a bunch of neons and 240's running even and 2-3 people who build a prelude and like the 240's now ,will have a huge advantage. now we are back in the same spot with 1 car being dominant and we changed all the rules over and got people to build new cars and spend more money for what? the only thing different will be that the new "fast" cars will be fwd and not as fun to drive.

So what is the solution to allowing newer cars to run with older ones? (first off, don't allow v-tec Hondas, that gets rid of all the high hp ones)

-Sunset's solution, it seems, is to make 8v so uncompetative that they will dissappear quickly. not nice to the 8v cars that were there, but maybe that doesn't matter if everyone goes to dohc 16v and car counts are maintained.
- a Varney mustang is 2300, VW/honda 8v 2000#, nissan 240 would be 2640#
-I have heard that Kawartha (16v track) is an all honda show but i really know nothing about that track
-Sauble seems to let anyone run anything with no tech because counts are dismall anyway.
-Flamboro mustangs are already 2600#, Nissan 240 is 2900#. How much would they make 16v weigh if they were allowed? As much as a thunder car?

Simple. Split the class. 8v cars are your entry level, multi valve/multi cam are the next step up.No screwing around trying to make 8v cars compete against stuff they dont have a chance against.
Keep the 8v bone stock, allow some leeway in the multi valve/cam class.Within 2 years the multi valve/cam class would be at thunder car speeds if they were on a decent tire.

It would also be simple to limit the available engines.Honda has to run the b18(?),escort has to run the older 2.0l dohc,vw has to run the 2.0 dohc, neon 2.4dohc,etc/etc. The high horsepower offshore jap scrap could be disaalowed from the beginning.Every manufacter has a motor available that could be used.
