SUPERCARS VNR: McLaughlin top of tables in first practice
Scott McLaughlin has bounced back from his Bathurst disappointment to be fastest in today’s opening practice at the Castrol Gold Coast 600.
The young Kiwi star was slightly ahead of Championship leader Shane van Gisbergen and David Reynolds as cars took the streets of Surfers Paradise for the first time ahead of this weekend’s racing.
McLaughlin’s Bathurst 1000 ended in controversial circumstances after a three way collision with Jamie Whincup and Garth Tander.
Earlier in the day a big crash in the second Porsche Carrera Cup practice session saw competitor Scott Taylor break his femur when he made contact with the Turn 1 wall, and was then collected by Nick McBride.
The Stadium Super Trucks made a spectacular return to the streets of Surfers Paradise, with plenty of incredible high-flying action in their first practice session.
A Video News Release featuring highlights of Supercars practice, an interview with 2016 winner James Courtney, vision of the Porsche crash and highlights from the Stadium Super Trucks is now available for download.
Van Gisbergen leads teammate Jamie Whincup – who finished fourth in the Supercars practice session – by 139 points in the Championship.
Cameron Waters – who had a stellar result with Jack Le Brocq at Bathurst, earned fourth – rounding out the top five as the quickest Prodrive car.
Bathurst winner Will Davison finished seventh, with last year’s Gold Coast winner James Courtney close behind.
