Why was Walters Dq'd

I think there is two contraversials issues being debated.

1.  Did Tom ignore the black flag after it was waved at him?  Keep in mind he also got a mechanical, thats why he was in the pits, then got the second black flag.  I personally don't think Tom ignored it. I was there and he ran a couple laps and quietly left, which is rare for him. (I'm sure he made a stink in the pits.)  If after what you typed is the rules (you'd know better than me) than he shouldn't have been given no points.  I think any driver in a pts. championship would go a couple laps to make sure it was him wouldn't he?  I would anyways.

2.  As you know Ross from racing at Sunset when you enter the track your going up hill and can't see whats going on. Therefore, your relying on the flagman at the corner.  Or your spotter, who sits near us and was still in the pits. I was watching for him to come out as I was really hoping he would.  It appeared to me that the corner flagman waved him back onto the track.

With a tight points race and very competitave class I would think that Sunset officials would give some slack to their top drivers.  I would hope this goes for Witty, Morrow or any other driver who comes out every night to entertain.  Tom entered safely right behind the pack.  Unfortunately, it was after the green by half a lap.  I know rules are rules but with Sunsets officials inconsistency this year, its a shame it came down to this.  I'm sure even Morrow would have rather beat him straight up!

he was allowed to run the second feature because it's considered another night. any track i've raced at, a black flag = 0 points for the night!

Wyatt, thats not even always true at Peterborough. In the endro, the rule was stated if you ignore the black flag you are no longer scored...

But if you look at racing in general, racers ingnore the flagmen all the time. Pitting when the pits are closed. Not coming in for your stop and go. The punishment for these, at worst is a loss of laps.. For Walters its all his points and a championship, for ignoring a flagman???? He pulled off again after 4 laps right? So he did honor the black flag.. Seems logical to me to just take away the 4 laps he ran under black....

Penilize the team yes, last place points. But DQ? If it was a DQ worthy offence, he should've been thrown out of the track and not allowed to run the second set of races for the night...

Bad time to make at best a questionable call.

And Earnhardtfromthegrave, there is no rule saying you can't enter under the green. I know of cars that have done that this year at Sunset. Ignoreing the flagman, is only possible offence.

Ok black flag for what? At the inviational (barrie) I got the black in the first heat because the front of my car was falling off. I fixed it and was back out.

Black flag = 0 points for me that day?

Rough driving and technical DQ's yes, but mechanical or minor rules, no... Say passing below the yellow at Sunset would get you the black, but doesn't that mean end of the line, or last place points, not DQ?

Plus they gave him his heat points for the night 😉

Ahhh, I thought it was Ross.  Thats why I said you guys would no better!  lol

So, then why would he flagged the second time?  If he ignored the flagman, but is aloud to enter under green, then why was the flagman waving at him to stop?  The only thing I can think of was that the flagman told him to stop because of where the other cars were on the track. Maybe?  But even that doesn't make sense because if you came out under green a few laps after the caution the cars would be spread out everywhere.  Damn, I don't know.  I'm just a race fan disappointed with a crap ending to a crap season.
