Turn to page 6, "The Inside Line", where Greg talks about "...change in the pages of Inside Track in recent months".

He even gives anyone out there the opportunity to contact him directly with stories or subjects that the readers might be interested in.

Hello Duey66 I would contact John Houghton at the track ( Delaware ) as I have Julys issue and he did the story in it. You are right i received October issue today and there is nothing in it reguarding Delaware. I know old issues of Insde Track I have Clare Dear a frelance reporter for the London Free Press did the stories. In this months issue Greg MacPherson has a story that the magazine is changing its format to something new. Sound like they want the Tracks to report there results on the net.
Just a comment on this the net is a great work tool. But people in this business have to remember that not all your fans have the Net and rely on the magazines & newspapers & radio for information on what is going on at the tracks.Remember there are a lot of NEW FANS out there that if they donot no whats going on they will not no when and where things are happening.
Remember they are the fans of the future

I know that Inside Track's weekly race results were only as good as the info they got from the tracks, but in the intro to this month's issue explains that they're taking a new approach and profiling people rather than results. I can go along with their reasoning too....if you really want race results, they're normally only a mouse click away. Do they really need to spend umpteen pages detailing the full results from a month ago? I kind of like the approach they're taking now.

That still doesn't explain why Delaware's not there however. I don't think its from lack of submission...I sent multiple queries myself for story ideas earlier in the year and didn't even get a "thanks but no thanks"...but mind you I'm not a professional writer and I'm not "officially" on staff at Delaware either. (Maybe they only want pros.)

CCS Guy nailed it though. Its a small market, and a broad one at the same time, and they're never going to keep everyone happy. Unfortunately weekly results and such are better served by fringe publications like GRR, as well as the internet, rather than a national magazine.

That's my 2 cents anyway.

BTW...isn't the sponsor appreciation stuff in its own special issue?

I truly miss the days of the weekly Canadian racing newspapers (thank god for Gater and Area Auto Racing News), but could see the change coming with Inside Track when they cut back from every two weeks in the summer to monthly. The results were often two months old by the time the magazine was received. 30 years ago, we went to the local variety store on Thursdays to pickup the weekly copy of Wheelspin but today the internet has superceded the need for this. I guess this has resulted in Inside Track going to features only as the previous format wasn't pleasing anyone.
The eastern Canadian dirt tracks in this area (Merrittville-Humberstone-Cornwall, etc.) have done a wonderful job of keeping their results and advertising up to date in Gater and AARN, but the Ontario asphalt tracks have done a poor job in getting their results out to the print media. AARN would print them if they sent them in. American fans I speak to have a pretty good idea of what's happening on dirt but have no idea what our paved tracks have to offer.  Canadian promoters now have a decision how to use their advertising dollars. Because Inside Track only publishes ten times a year, it means they will have to plan their advertising much further ahead or in turn, finally start using their local print media again.
It just seems that as a result of a weak Canadian print media, the paved tracks have become much more isolated (or insulated?), for example fans from Sunset used to know what was happening at Flamboro but now I think they couldn't care less.
Just some food for thought.
