I never understood why they went with full size trucks. They should have went with mini trucks using 302 305 318 engines. They would have been a heck of a lot lighter. 2500 lbs compared to 3500 lb tanks. Lighter trucks would have been a lot easier on parts and tires. I don't race in this class, just my 2 cents.

They allow those in Ohsweken's Thunder Stock class, and to my knowledge not a single guy's racing one. Which is a shame, I think a V8 S10 would make a great oval track platform (same front suspension as a metric.)
I get what you're saying about wear, but I gotta think finding S10s and Rangers in half-decent shape, and the effort/custom stuff to swap in the V8, seems like a lot more time/money than just finding a half ton. Going to the Trucks for the first time after racing Street Stocks forever, I was shocked at how quick, easy and cheap it was for me to stockpile fenders and doors and hoods for a Silverado! 😀
Also, we raced a Ranger, in the 4 cylinder class, at North Bay for a season. We won a grand total of one heat race, and had a handful of top 5s. I dunno if anyone else has ever raced a Ranger, but I can tell you, the whole I-beam suspension thing? Yeah, no thanks. What a turd.
Tigeraid,
I was talking to a guy from oshweken he actually said there is going to be five of those trucks racing this year so it definately is picking up, maybe if some more guys bring them out in enduro the track can do something with them. Until there is a car count i cant see the track doing anything to bring out another division.
Good to hear, I'll be heading out for a show or two, and I'll watch 'em!
I always thought our Trucks would fit into their Thunder Stock class just fine, with a little weight taken out. They make more power, but weigh a lot more. Would be fun to throw a set of dirt tires on and try. ;D
Only problem with the Big"O" is getting there in time if you work till 5 or so. The S-10 platfrom looked pretty good to me as well, since Oshweken will allow you to stiffen the chassis. Stripped down, they are very light, but unsure of roll center. For the most part, metrics seem to rule the roost at that track in the dirt (most wins I saw when I was there was a metric being five or six last year).
