Fans and competitors have been buzzing about a wild new event will take place at Delaware Speedway on October 15th called the Delaware Speedway Pumpkin Smasher.  The event consists of a demolition derby, $500 to win King of the Hill Extreme Spectator’s Race and an event called the Bone Stock 75 aimed at bringing new drivers into competition in completely stock 4-cylinder vehicles with only safety equipment upgrades.

As well as these events, a new race is being added to the card for the day that will invite existing four-cylinder competitors in the region into competition and help retain the spirit of competition that the Bone-Stock series was designed for.

The new event, “Open Ontario Four Cylinder Championship”, will be open to full four-cylinder racers from across the province.

The event came about through working with a series at South Buxton Raceway called the four-cylinder Mini-Mods which were looking for an opportunity to try something different after their regular season was completed.

“The Mini-Mods came to me shortly after the information was released for the Pumpkin Smasher,” explained Houghton.  “They didn’t want to change the rules of the event; instead they put forward a pitch for an open invitational and immediately pre-registered nine of their drivers.  Their strong commitment in stepping up made a strong impression and has played a great role in landing the event.”

The invitational guidelines are simple:

Rules

1. All drivers are to meet standard Delaware safety Specifications.  This includes 5-point harnesses dated no older than 3-years, Snell Rated SA (special application) Helmets, full roll cage, neck brace, fire suit.  The safety specs are similar to the Bone Stocks, however Open-Ontario invitational cars must use racing seat.

2. D.O.T. Street Legal tires only no Slicks or dirt racing tires.

3. 1″ Wheels nuts Mandatory on the right Side of the car.

4. Racing or Safety right front wheel mandatory.

5. 13″ or 14 wheels only

6. Open weight rule. Cars must be safe and not chopped in a matter that make the car weak to lighten.

7. Mirrors Allowed

8. Engine rule. Open to any of the mini stock rules in Ont.

9. Pump fuel only

10. Dirt cars must be clear of any dirt or debris.

11. Dirt cars may run screen but a full face helmet must be worn.

The Open-Ontario Invitational is being offered the same affordable registration package as the Bone Stocks which includes entry for the car, driver and one crew member into the event.  The entry is discounted to $16 until September 24 after which the registration returns to $25 and does not include the crew member after that time.  Registration info can be found on this page.

The race itself will feature a pair of 8-lap heat races followed by a 15-lap consolation if necessary.  The final event will be 25-laps.  A full field for the main event will be considered 25 cars.

“This event will invite existing competitors to join us on this day instead of alienating them,” explained event promoter John Houghton.  “Having them present will help grow this racing community and enhance the overall event.  It will help keep the Bone-Stocks completely stock and the event within the spirit of their rules and welcomes new competitors from around the region to join us on the full half-mile speedway”.

Prizing programs for the Open Ontario Four Cylinder Championship will be announced separately.

The Bone Stocks provide the highlight of the Pumpkin Smasher, running an extended 75-lap event with challenging obstacle cars parked all around the race track reminiscent of a 1990s era Enduro event.  Combined with the Demolition Derby & $500 to win King of the Hill, Open Ontario Four Cylinder Championship the day will be an exciting one for spectators and participants.  The event will start at 1:00 pm on Saturday, October 15.

Send it off to john@delawarespeedway.com.  I'll have that added to the registration instructions tomorrow.

All the best,

If I'm understanding correctly, this event is open to everything from Buxton Mini Mods, to 4 cyl Street Stocks, to Flamboro Pro-4 Modifieds etc etc?
