Not all concrete, energy absorbing safer barrier in the high impact areas from corner entry to past the exit. To me sending a fast moving race car up into the air just doesn't work out right. Call me crazy. ??? Sadler's was scary huge big, I hope he kisseds his Hans after that one. WOW!
airborne doesn't hurt, dead stop does, i'd rather be flipping through the air putting on a show, rather than a dead stop.
Yes, for sure the dead stop ones are the ones that make you hold your breath. Maybe I've seen to many sprint cars pretending they're some sort of UFO or something but on the ground seems to be a good place for a race car, Especially in front of the grand stands. Maybe if they took the angle off the bottom of Jerseys they would still be able to move and absorb some of the bigger hits yet keep the cars on the ground.
Hey Wesley. I am the car owner. Delaware Super Stock #77 My son is the driver. I quit enduro racing back in the 90's when I became flagman for the then Cascar Super Series. As far as the discussion at hand. Three years ago we collected the outside front wall where the Jersey barriers are almost head on. Came away with having to replace front horns. This year we collected the inside front wall head-on annd had to clip the car. Almost the same impact speed both times. Differance was the flat wall inside IMO. Ask me as one paying the bills which wall I prefer.
Airbourne does not hurt the driver but a hotdog in the hand is not much protection for the racing fan. The walls are there for fan protection and pit protection (containment). The walls are a driver hazard and continuously a subject of improvement. Track surface and more than one driving line improves the chances of keeping off the wall although it still happens.
My contention at the start of this thread was that wall improvement and track resurface would turn a lot of wall hits into near misses for the most part and make for better racing. Enduro 5 I think a few guys in classes above you would be honoured to have you look after their budget if you are not spending enough.
I think my original point was the jerseys in the racing line such as the front straight and coming out of two. There is no question that some of the hits that have been described on here by the drivers (no I am not a driver so I definetly do not know what it is like to hit a wall) have been lessened by the jerseys but these are off racing line accidents if I read correctly. Point conceded. However I have seen what looks like needless damage to cars on the straight and coming out of two due to the jerseys grabbing the cars which is of course what they are designed to do. The many drivers that have debated on this thread have arguments on both sides which I think is good and what this forum is for. I think we can all agree that improvements need to be made sometime in the not so distant future.
A perpendicular wall would of caused serious injury or death. (Kenny Irwin and Adam Petty were killed by such an impact in the early 2000's)
yes but enduro 5oh back then they didn't have the safety devices they have now technoligy has come along way since 2000. look at scotts wreck i still think they only thing that saved him a trip to the hospital was his hans device. if and this is a big if delaware changed there walls they will have to make hans devices mandatory(exc enduro chaos) IMO
Hans devices aren't mandatory ???
