Just for a little side plate how many cars were moving on the track red in the SS division on Friday night ????
I would like to thank Matt Lake and the entire Lawrence shop crew for lending me the trany that allowed me to be able to make the feature. What kind of beer do you guys prefer? Also I have to commend the enduro guys again for running a smooth clean race, it was nice racing with those guys again. As far as the wall thing goes I don't have a good solution. But, the walls need to be lined up better, if you rub against them the corners stick out and rip a nice chunk out of the car, especially the back stretch inside wall.
Does anyone have pics or video of Steven March's flight in the late 80's/early 90's? He ran in the vintage modified class, yellow #52 "The Bounty Hunter 2"
He went into turn three, and as in the same fashion as in the earlier post, his accelerator pedal stuck. He climbed turn three, mounted the wall, and started barrel rolling. As he rolled he exploded the t.v stand in three/four that was made out of wood. luckily noboby was in it...
He ended up out in the farmers field, pretty much wheels down with basically just a roll cage around him.. he was ok but recieved quite a knock to the head..
I was there that night, and was in shock from seeing a family member have such a spectacular crash..
luckily it happened where it did because if it happened going through 4, he might have ended up in the crowd, sitting in the lower grass section of 4..
Oh and that car never saw the track again..
I've told my version of that crash here a couple of times...whenever there's one of those whats-the-strangest-thing-you-ever-saw conversations gets started. It was under caution when that happened. Guy was doing pace laps like everyone else, than for some reason started going faster and faster until he pulled out around the rest of the field, crashed into the wall and went up and over. (I presume that's the one you're talking about.)
I don't have pics, but I'm 90% sure our buddy Gary Brooks has a photo of the aftermath hanging on the wall in his shop. I'll give him a PM and see.

Thats correct Shadow, Steve was trying to catch back up to the pack before the green flew. as he came out of 2 his accelerator pedal stuck at WOT and even with his brakes fully matted he climbed outta the park. He hit the turn 3 wall at full speed.
I do know that there is a video out there somewhere. Steve has mentioned that much.
If Gary could find the pic, that would be great.
I only have one picture of the wreck, but no scanner at the moment or I would post it..
It seems the photographer was on his game that night, as he was one of the first on the scene. which was in the farmers field.. the pic I have is of the car sitting in the field with all of Steves crew (my family) rushing to the car, as well as the safety personel.. whom did a great job that night as well I might add.
I believe that part of the wall is jersey barriers as well. I also dont think that the outcome would have been that different that night, if there was different barriers. Steve was travelling so fast by the time he hit the wall, and the angle he hit the wall shot him straight out of the park.. Open wheeled cars do that no matter what barrier is in front of them...
I also think that if Delaware had different walls like Kawartha, that the outcome might have been worse for the driver #7 truck
I watched in horror again, as the driver that i crew for part time (Mike brown #2 llm Barrie car) was shot out into the wall in the exit of turn 4 of Kawartha. He hit so hard the front clip was punched over almost two feet.. He danced spinning in the air 4-5 times along the wall totalling the car, front and rear before he landed and slid to a stop.
It took almost two hours with a BFH, and sawzall to put the car back on the trailer. We missed the fall colors that year unfortunately, but Mike was alright. as his car was well built!!
I seem to vaguely remember a lady driver at delaware leaving the park in turn one, back in the same time frame. I think the only thing that saved her from ending up in the lower pits parking area, was the large wooden advertisement signs that went up along the wall there.
She drove a reddish boat of a street stock. An older chevelle or malibu i think..
I was about ten or eleven back then, and some of the names escape me lol, I remember G. wall, D stewart, A Farr, T. Leslie.. And of course Jr Hanley and Roblee while being at the track.
Much like Steve, I am happy to hear that the drivers that were involved in the serious incidents on fri night, were imediately resonded to, and treated.. Also that they basically walked away in one piece!!
Kudo's to Delaware's safety team, and the folks whom put the cars together properly, to ensure the drivers safety was priority number one!!
