It's not just the 350's, crates, and gears. There's limited cars to run anymore. 15 years ago, we had 125 cars or more 20 years ago it was in the 200's. Pretty sure those days are gone, and the only wide spread numbers of cars possible in that number bracket are 4 cylinder junkers.

it's not the availibility of cars I'm thinking its the lack of funds to race. We take for granted that everybody has a place to build a car and the wherewithal to accomplish the task. I think allot of folks would like to get involved being given the opportunity, problem is opportunity doesn't exist. Varney speedway used to try and help teams out by givimg them acess to the pits and allowing folks to get atthe cars during the week. I know this is not doable at Delaware but it's just thinking out of the box

When my '76 Laguna was ready to be retired it would have been a simple matter of ripping out the interior, putting some bars in where you are told to, put the gas tank in the trunk and you are basically ready to Enduro race. At least back then. You may not have won anything but you could get a quick start and move on from there. Today when my '04 Impala is ready to retire there is way too much to deal with. It is probably faster then my Laguna was but then there is electronics, air bags, computer, no frame, fuel cell, proper seat, etc, etc. I know some changes are for safety and are a good thing but the days of a guy being able to drive his car to work on Monday then deciding on tuesday he wants to race on Friday are looooong gone. I remember in the late seventies and early eighties at Sunset the Enduros would circle the track three wide. Not any more.

Ernie is right, the electronics have scared many people away from building newer cars. Mind you, with soime coaching, most of it is easily removable, or modified to race. a 350 from mid 70-80s era, had 160-220 horsepower in stock form. the are 1.6 turbos throwing that out without a hiccup anymore. Mind you they do not have the torque these glorious old iron horses had, but the potential for fast runs are there. I wasn't the first four banger out there, but I know 2009 season I had sub 25 second laps before I bent that Honda. That car was bone stock, and super easy to drive... pushed like a blind horse, but was fun as heck.

I know there's kids out there who would build these, and not for Chaos. Not to knock Chaos, because it is a viable entry running, but it isn't a proper roundy round.
