The differece of 16 to 11.5 volts is big. The advantage is gained from the coil saturation. The more voltage in the the faster the coil charges and the higher it charges. This in turn gves you a bigger spark more reliably which could be as much as 15HP. This is also the same team that suffered a failed rev limiter, which may or may not have been contributed by the increased voltage on the primary side of the ignition system. The power losses and gains are well documented and all over the net so finding reference to it is easy.
The system requires a hefty out lay of cash so I'm thinking they put it into the car to gain an edge not just get rid of money. Costs need to be kept in reasonable check spending that kind of dough so everybody can be equal is nothing short of dumb. We don't need the extra wiring, devices, and potentially failed rev limiters. Just the way I see it.
Nines are the way to go after we had two axle failures last year. Unfortunately we spent over thousand building a 8.5" rearend. Well maybe they will let the enduro guys use them, who knows.

I don't see a big deal, we ran our Flamboro thunder with no alternator and a 12 volt battery, never had a problem just had to charge every week.  one night and the battery would still read 75%

the only way to know if it caused a problem or not was to test the car with and without an alternator....

Not that I run in a class that requires it, I still lack the ability to grasp my head around denying the one guy to run a 16 volt system. It makes slightly better power in the spark, that's it. If you want to run 16 volts with an alternator, ungh what a pain. It is possible, but really useless. I say, if the guy wants to run it, let him spend the cash. Only advantage he seriously may have, was a few extra pounds removed for no alternator.

Note, that guy was Jason Lidster, the #11 Super Stock that won the championship. His system was used and he paid $500 for it. He also ran consistantly last year which I hear leads to championships. BTW, he also runs an altenator that charges a 16V system, so no weight loss gain.

I've been at Delaware for over 9yr and have see alot of things. I'm just confused as to why there is all of a sudden such issues with the rear axles in Super Stock and Truck this year.
Is it maintenance?
If you get hit in an axle or bend a rim one week are you removing the axles and having them checked (magnafluxed)?
What axle manufacturer, and are they circle track axles or drag axles both are built on different technologies. Did you know that?
If you run a c-clip eliminator the tire, axle end (past the eliminator) will come out, not the axle, where are they breaking.
Are the retainers being tack welded in place, the should be, are they?
Mark Williams have screw on retainers which are even better.
Floater will not stop a wheel from comming off if the wheel cracks or studs break.
How old are the axles and how much use and abuse have they had?
How may people are having issues 1, 2, 12, 22?
If it's the same people maybe it's something they are doing wrong.
Finally, what are you going to do make all the Enduro guys run floaters next.

Finaly please read the liability clauses on all tickets, your taking your own risks by going to a race, be it a driver, team or specator.

I crew for JWO and it was the flange that broke off the first time. That wheel had never been hit and the driver did not mention any vibration before the flange broke. It was a OEM axle and the second flange failure was noticed in the shop by Jim as he closely inspected the flange on the right side after each nite since the first one had broken from fatigue.
