yetti to some degree i agree with you but im looking at a quick easy solution given the enduro rules.  On a built motor aluminum intake is a no no in enduro.  So the quick easy bolt on fix is to buy the intake and bolt it on. The intake actually flows very well considering what it is.  The marine intake is 350 bucks.  Any one can bolt it on in there back yard with little time invested.  Its the quick easy fix given the current rules.

the rules state that on a built motor you must run a stock cast iron 2 barrel or 4 barrel.  the marine intake is cast iron witch meets the rules.  how ever there is no gm casting number on it.  the rules also say no engine modifications.  Adapting an old intake to new heads you have to modify the heads or the intake.  Now you are modifing the engine.  so really your re writing the rules one way or the other.
I agree 110 percent with you by specing an intake will make the techs job easier.  we are both going in the same direction its a matter of trying to convince the tech guys and owners that this is the way to .

Here's an even better intake: http://www.summitracing.com/parts/SUM-226018/ (because I have one on my shelf lol).
I put one in last winter but was informed at preseason tech that it wasn't allowed. I switched to the 2 barrel cast intake & have had leaking problems ever since. You can run smog 882's at the end of the field, pay someone $600+ for decent old heads, use Vortec's from a junkyard down the street, or pay $4000 for a crate. Vortec's make sense, a cheap intake is more of a proper fit / proper seal issue than a performance advantage....them crate intakes sure look sweet though....

so are fine shavings, from brake rotors that are turned, but hell my heads are perimeter bolt, as for the costs, it is what it is, I know this going in, will my car ever run top 5, can't see it, no it won't , but i know what i'm up against, racing costs alot of money know matter where you are, even to be mid field, but with a little research, and alot of help, you can put a decent car together, without spending a ton of money, the days of a 1000 dollar enduro are gone!  hell i'm up to 4 grand, before tires! and it's still on the stands! , BUT it'll make power, just not sure how many laps it'll last!  gotta love junkyard parts!
