Here's the test......Biggest late model event so far this year, and a big test for the new style of broadcasting that Chris, Jared and John have adopted. I'll admit, as a diehard fan of live racing, that this style is impressing me very much. I especially love the way Jared teases us into the backstretch and then sends it to Chris. When Chris gets it, he is a fabulous anchor for that line-up. I know he's going to set me up as the field comes around. He is very good at setting the stage for the next lap to begin as the field comes back around to John. Actually I like what John is doing on his turn, he's actually not saying as much as i thought he would. I think he can sense that Jared and Chris are doing a great job of keeping the crowd on the edge of their seat. John pretty much keeps the logistics of the race in check when he talks....laps on the board etc, and makes some comments once in a while. I wouldn't mind once in a while for Jared to do some interviews after the feature for one specific reason. I know Chris has to leave his broadcast spot early to get to the finish for the interviews, because i can hear him throw the conclusuion of the race to Jared and John. I would love to hear him call the closing laps just to hear the difference if there is any. The 140 this Friday night will be a good test to see if they can put on a show for that much longer. I'm looking forward to finding out.
John's role seems to depend on what's going on on the track. Of the three announcers, he's the only one that can see the entire track at a glance and is tied into the track radio, scorekeepers and scoreboard operations. Basically he can hear and process all information relating to race control and pass that along to the crowd & by extension the other announcers. This serves to keep the flow and focus of the race consistant. He's also the only one of the three with access to driver stats.
The closer an announcer is the track, I feel the better job they can do in bringing that action into the grandstand because they are <<right there>>. A close up announcer can see things you can never see far away, even from the grandstand. You can tell alot about how a driver is handling their car by their smoothness on the wheel, or look on their face.
Ultimately, the announcers will have very little bearing on the race; The drivers are the ones bringing the show, and as such will be the centre of attention. Announcers can add a lot (or take away) a lot from a show. When the drivers bring a good competition, and the announce team is in place to cover it... Lets just say it makes for a fun race.
What's everyone going to bring for Hoppy's challenge? ... Don't forget to bring a towel!

Heh...what's next, the announcers right IN the cars to get a look a the guy's face?
As far as noisemakers go, I'm kind of undecided. Best case might be those plastic trumpets you see at football games. I think I have one of those kicking around.
I know it won't happen for this Friday night's race but Deleware should bring back the traditional format for the 300 in September. Let these crews earn their stripes aswell. Make it 300 laps not the 3-100 lap segments. Let there be green flag and under caution pit stops for the fans and to really see how good these late model teams are. There are alot of fans that want to see this format trialed again just to see how it would work.

hah...the race would take a week to complete!
I'd be in favor of going back to a 200 lapper actually, with time trials and heats....maybe a side order of Super Stocks.
Yeah. Thats the ticket.
