Bone Stock Safety Equipment Suppliers and Costs

Hello All,

As indicated earlier, I have been working with different suppliers to get packages put together to help ease the entry into racing.  Safety is of paramount importance to everyone involved.  The safety specs for the series were designed working with insurance and should provide good piece of mind on the track.

I've been saying for some time that one of these cars should cost about $1,500 to build.  It seems this should be possible, given the new quotes I've been receiving on safety packages.

Event info here: http://www.delawarespeedway.com/race-season/pumpkinsmasher/bone-stocks

I will use this thread to post the various offers that I receive and will be editing this post as time goes on.

IMPORTANT: THESE PRICES ARE SIMPLY BASE PRICES AND ARE NOT GUARANTEED BY THE SPEEDWAY.  PRICING IS SUBJECT TO CHANGE BY INDVIDUAL SUPPLIERS AND ADJUSTMENT BASED ON VOLUME OF PURCHASE.  PLEASE CONTACT SUPPLIERS DIRECTLY FOR MORE INFORMATION.

Special thanks to the suppliers for working with me over the phone on these and getting back to me with the details.

Here is what I have received so far:

McColl Racing Enterprises of London ( http://www.mccollracing.com ) (1-800-423-3407)

Has put together an excellent package.  They’ve been able to break it down by item, but these prices are based on the full package purchase.  McColl’s is easy to deal with an they are also an official speedway sponsor.  For drivers constructing in the London area, purchasing from McColls will also save you on shipping.  Dan Bugg is the designated contact for Bone Stock builds at McColls.

Cage (McColl Custom Cage) $330.00
Seat Mounting Kit $85.00
Firesuit $160.00
SA-2010 Helmet (G-force Helmet) $255.00
Gloves $56.00
5 point Belts $83.00
Neck Brace $26.00
Window Bar $45.00
Window Net $17.00
Kirkey Economy Racing Seat $146.00
Approximate Total for all Equipment: $1,203.
Contact McColl Racing for additional details.

Cage Installers – Not everyone knows how to weld a cage safely.  If you don’t then this is for you.

McColl Racing Enterprises:  A great deal here - - to install a cage in the car, the interior has to be completely gutted and prepared to their specs.  If done to spec, McColl's is then able to do this about $550 INSTALLED CAGE INCLUDED.  There are a number of factors that influence this price, but having welded a cage on the pilot project car, this struck me as a good offer for those with no experience.  Again, Dan Bugg is the person to talk to at McColls.  1-800-423-3407

I'm sure if potential racers were to canvas existing teams some bargains maybe had purchasing used equipment. I know used stuff has been long a mainstay on our team, and quite frankly has been the thing that has allowed us to run this season. If anybody has any questions whatsoever please feel free to contact me. I'm new to the world of ministock racing, but I do have considerable experience with stock bodied vehicles. Please keep one thing in mind SAFETY is the most paramount thing in building your ride. Cages need to be safe and they need to be installed properly.

Had a great conversation with Doug from Modfather Performance near Barrie today.  He wished to add his business into the listed mix.  The quote has been added to the original post.  Thanks Doug for the comments and suggestions - - I took a few notes for consideration.

We promoted a few of these offers throughout the weekend - - hopefully competitors are able to take advantage of these programs heading towards the event.

Quick note to those purchasing safety equipment (used), when buying your seatbelts, be sure to check for the white SFI tag.  It has punched into it the date the equipment was manufactured.  I must have been manufactured within the last five years and not have cuts in the webbing to be acceptable.

Some competitors have been buying seatbelts that are (seriously) 15 years old and trying to get them approved and are seemingly unaware of the SFI dates and what they mean.  A seatbelt loses a great deal of its strength in the first year of use - - by the time it is 15 years old it has no place in any vehicle.

I hope those that are working away on these have been having good success finding affordable safety equipment.  Remember, for bone-stock competition to be most fun for you, the majority of your budget should be spent on transferrable safety equipment!
