With that in mind, thats why it may be an issue with Delaware, if the cars are that drastically different, we might lose some competitors to Grand Bend. I can think of a few drivers who are upset with Delaware. Grand Bend may be the perfect solution to those drivers and teams who feel they have been wronged by Delaware. Before, its been: Go ahead, race somewhere else. knowing full well there was no track in the area that raced a weekly division. Now thats changed and now that there is an option. It would be nice if the rules packages at both tracks were similar to allow for easy turn over, but as mentioned, the Grand Bend rules for street stocks will be different. and the trucks are street stocks with the fiberglass body, unlike the Delaware trucks which are fully stock, full size trucks.
I dont know the exact car count, but lets review what has happened in the off season.
I hear Jamie Ramsey has a latemodel, Todd Powell has Hathaways '06 car, so thats two rookies in the late models.
Some unknowns: The McColl Rent-a-ride, Ramsey drove it last in the APC 300 but that isnt the car he has now, is that still available? All the ALSTAR competitors?
With the new divisions at Grand Bend, will we lose some street stock and truck competitors?
2007 will be a challenging year.
Through various sources and guesses, I'd plan on seeing 20-22 regular LMs out there next year...
As far as the Grand Bend street stocks/trucks, I can understand some of their reasoning behind their street stock rules. It's aimed to grab some of the Varney guys and could allow guys who run Enduro to run weekly there as well. What I don't understand is coming up with yet another one track only division. There's nobody remotely close that runs that style of race truck. I'm not sure on the specs of Auto City's truck class, but I believe they're a mix of Delaware trucks and custom-built race trucks. Either way, GBS should've went with some sort of rules package that would've allowed guys to run both tracks, to get some sort of a used-truck market going. Yet again, we are our own worst enemies...
They're also talking about starting a 3/4 size truck class at GBS in 2008, which makes more sense to me than the full size. I'm not sure if the track will be big enough for the full sized trucks to put on a great show.
So it would be something like a Pro Challenge, but a truck instead then? That would be kind of cool.
Same size as the pro challenge cars, but a lot cheaper. And they'd have a GM crate engine in them as well, so you won't have to worry about the expensive motorcycle engines and rebuilds. They'll be like the ARCA trucks, but they haven't decided which engine to go with yet.
