Going from the pole to 43rd starting position in the Nation Wide starting line up there is almost 3 seconds difference and thats far too much.  John Bornman will be lapped about every 10 laps going by their qualifying speed , so what really is the point of them being out there ?
CART had this problem in the mid 80s and implemented a minimum qualifying speed based on the pole winners speed and its time for Nascar to do the same . From 38th on back they are over two seconds slower then the front runners and that would have been a good place to cut the line up off . Luckily most of these guys are start and parkers and should be loading their cars before they are lapped .

i thought nascar did have a minuim speed of 80% of pole time and only one chance to meet it, or is that only after you are involved in a wreck?

That's after a wreck.

The 80% rule is for the intire race not just after you wreck but it does not apply to qualifying .  I was surprised the Borneman was able to only 4  laps down by catching the cautions just as the leaders caught him .  If John  can finish 1 more race in his career he will tie his father and he has already surpassed his grandfather.  All the other usual start and parkers did manage to get it into the pits before they had to shell out $1600 for a second set of tires .

Thanks Wilf for going to all that bother to register an alt screen name just for that critique .

Good to be back , too bad i missed all the OSS flame wars but i am pretty much ambivalent about that series anyway .
