truth is i had/have most of the addictions duken talks about. i work hard at my business,i play hard at my hobby. i do believe racing is the same as bikes, it is a way of life to me. if i have to explain it to you i cant you will never get it. for those few minutes i am in my car I AM DALE SR. can racing be an addiction,no doubt but as long as my bills are paid and family looked after what does it matter what i spend my extra $$ on.some say i am spending my kinds inheritance, i say the perfect ending to my life is at my wake my eldest get a call from my baker who says my last tire check bounced.lol

Any you remember a certain famous  Canadian race car driver that passed away a few years ago sitting in a one room apartment watching a 13" TV with about 83 dollars in his bank account ?

He clearly hadn't spent enough, he had $83 to spend on his car (just kidding). I don't even own a TV, most of it is garbage nowadays anyways. Why would you need a 60" TV if all they show on it is garbage, the TV doesn't make the programming any better.

I think what Duken was saying about addiction is very true. You can become addicted to the booze at the beer tent, or to the joint passed around behind the washrooms, or to the race car in the pits. Or to any one of a number of things, INCLUDING MONEY and power... A nice balanced life is very important, but at the same time some people choose to do things in their lives. I have chosen not to get married, yet, or have children, I make decent money, and I like to race. The government likes the money they get from me, I have some money to do this and that, and I race... If you can't handle running a race car on what you make then you need to get some supporters or sponsors or save your pennies. Mr Terry to me I couldn't really care less about what BMW and Mercedes are bringing out this year, and how are Mr. and Mrs. Jones down the street going to react when they see that in the driveway, maybe that's your deal. This is why we all are voting in the upcoming election, because I have the right to choose what I like to do, and how I live my life... When they replace the maple leaf in the center of the Canadian Flag with a red star, let me know, cause I'll move somewhere else...

How much do people spend on 2 rounds of golf per week?
How much do people spend on a few ski weekends per season?
How much do people spend on Maple Leaf tickets?(a complete waste,I might add)
How much do people spend on a snowmobile and accessories?
How much do ..............................well you get the point.
Now,how many people get to spend every saturday nite with their spouse and two teenage children, having fun, knowing the kids wont get in trouble, enjoying a FAMILY hobby, meeting many friends and extended family, while at the same time getting the weekly adrenaline rush?
Racing has brought my family much closer together than I could ever imagine. The shared experiences are priceless.
Solid Financial planning is a separate subject, unfortunatley some will always get their racing and finances mixed up.People always have choices to make, sometimes they make the wrong ones.

You don;t want to know our snowmobile costs..lol

our racing bill for th eyear is easily around 22,000-35,000 (sno-X and stock cars)

But we spend 44 weekends a year as a family and as my dad says, you cannot put a price on that.

Barrie 97p.s when the ballifs show up at your door make sure you show them those pictures of all those warm and fuzzy family outings. Truth is that only Joe Chance has read my statement with an open mind instead of getting all defensive about the truth. Truth is most (not all racers)are broke dicks and the reason is they will lie to themselves there family and others (sponsors) to get to that track. l don't know of any local track guys that made money racin, some can afford to pi$$ it away most others can't even afford a hot dog at fall colors. So we'll see ya'll sneakin over the fence at Peterborough (again).
