I heard the battery smashed the windshield & cracked open leaking acid in the car ( I never saw it myself ). I think Brad Richmond will be doing some safety checks this weekend. Brad Moran certainly is worried, we were listening to the tracks radio & there was a caution in the "A" divison. Someone came on the radio & started to say who caused it & Brad came on the radio freaking saying the first thing he wanted to know was if everyone is OK. They said yes & Brad said OK now worry about there positions.

No the battery did not smash the windshield, it did come out though... There was no front hoop at all, but isn't that optional for the drivers to do, maybe now it will be madatory. Wade, once again, they let him out. His roll cage, is a late model roll cage, he worked hard on that car, and everything passed. And Khane thought he kept his hands on the steering wheel, he didn't, he raised them off of it... and he slammed on the brakes, you can see the skid marks in one of the pics on the Barrie Speedway Website. But he has a broken shoulder and wrist, I believe 97ps said it was his hand, when indeed it wasn't. 99 got hit by someone (only person you can see in the pics is #84) and that put him into Joe. ~~~Just wanted to clarify a few things~~~

Note to Wadepeterson, This is Kahnefreak's dad, and I'm not impressed that you say my son wine's and moans every night, when infact I will say he does not!! He's haveing the most fun this year that he's had in the past 3 yr's, He get's along with almost every driver out there in his class and pretty much has a running joke with all of them about cheating and it's only a joke and everyone knows it, if your talking about the issue with the 8 car of Rick Drinkwater, you should maybe get your fact's straight on this one, beacause it was Joe Ficker and Deven Craft's father who where over there yelling there heads off at him for hitting almost evrycar out there in his first two heats.

I would have to go with Kahnefreaks dad on this one. I have seen huge improvements from Steve both on and off the track this year. He has learned patience and he is always very supportive of the other drivers in his class, he congraduates them and make sure they ok if they are in a wreck. It certainly looks like he is always having fun out there.
And all though Joe got hurt in a very serious accident, safety may or may not have been an issue. Even the best drivers with the best equipment do get hurt in accidents. I agree that front hoops at the very least should be mandatory. We race in a dangerous sport and we all know that, we ourselves are responsible for our own choice when it comes to the safety of our cars. As for the comment that "it is hoped that he has learned a valuable lesson" i find this to be very cruel to Joe, he built the car to the track specs and it passed the tech inspection, he has put alot of time and some money into his car for the love of the sport, he could not have forseen this accident and the injuries that he got. I am sure he now understands why a front hoop is so important, but did anyone explain it prior to the accident or has anyone offered to help him? Not likely.
As for the Drinkwater issue, if all the rumors that i hear (that sunset gave him the boot due to rough driving), then Barrie better have a meeting with him and i don't understand why they would have put him in with the new, youngest, and most inexperienced class. I guess we will have to wait and see, and if there is a problem with him then we will have to band together and meet with management about it.
