i think simpler is better.....too complex a system no one will understand and there will be people thinking they got ripped off for points when they didn't and you will make yourself a big headache

if you just pull numbers when you get to the track, make it for the start of the first heat, then invert the field for the second heat.  base feature line up on how you finished the last couple features....fast guys to the back.  if you miss a week its like you won the feature the week before.

it takes the pill right out of the equation, then nobody gets any advantage for what they pull because if its first in one heat they will be last the next heat......makes it all equal with less calculating....just give 4 more points from 1st to second, then 2 more for second to 3rd, then one point off for all positions behind.  you award too much for a heat win the championship will be over too fast.  award the win but make the points so that they remain close as possible

last year sunset ran one heat for minis so if you pulled a bad number you got screwed, no second inverted heat for minis so the championship gets partially decided at the gate.  this is a crappy system for a true championship.

And I agree with charlie that a chase would give barrie an advantage it will keep more people in the running for a championship and guys from 6-12 or whatever will be having intencse battles right down to the wuire and if u had some bad luck you can still squeek out the chase and win a championship which will keep more guys running every week

Just my two cents, the points system outlined by Rocketman, is simple and pretty much standard with most tracks...+1.  Heats should be awarded points, as it is a race within the season championship.
As for the "chase", leave that to the big guys.....Local short track doesn't need that type of stuff.....picture a guy who dominated the whole year losing the title cause of two bad nights at the end, and a guy winning it that only had two good weeks at the end.....

But Charlie..how would that affect cars that are out of towners. If I showed up for the odd race, wouldn't that just muck up the local guys run for the championship?

see this is what i would do in a situation with visiting cars from other tracks. If they are not registered then let them run anyways. award them the finish that they get but don't give them points. So if let's say "Joe Blow" comes and races the Thunders from another track one night, then he finishes 2nd. he would get 2nd place money but no points. The guy who finishes in 3rd who is registered and running for points every week would get 3rd place money but he would recieve 2nd place points. Throws the visiting cars outta the mix when it comes to points. Only regualr registered drivers running for points should recieve track points. Just my opinion, but i am sure some of you would agree.
