i know what the pill draw is. just wanted some clarification on how that would figure into handicapping. maybe examples of situations and pill draws to show the difference in feature starting positions based on heat finshes and pill drawing from that night.

Sorry ib thought there was more than just you here.
Something that works well In the states is taking the top 2 or 3 or even 4 from each heat depending on number of heats etc and having them redraw for their start position so if the winner of heat won drew say a 9 that would start them inside row five etc etc.
This works best with more cars and is used a lot for invitationals and non series races where you get lots of non regulars.

okay, As you will know everyone pulls a pill at the beginning of the night each class has 1-35 (with 36-40) reserved for people that end up showing up late etc. As of right now we qualify both pure stocks and thunder by 80% of the field. So top 80% of the field gets their handicap if they qualify.

Say we have 18 cars for the night out of those 18 cars, 14 cars will qualify for their handicap in the feature (14 cars is roughly 77%) Now we take 14 and divide it by two because we usually( if not always) run 2 heats with half the field in each heat. so out of the total 9 cars in each heat top 7 will qualify for their handicap. Each car is given points depending on how they finish first place you get 10 points all the way back. These points are not Added towards your nightly points or your season points they are solely for determining your feature start.
so
Heat 1 + Heat 2 = Total qualifying points (top 7 in each heat qualify)

As of right now your pills are not counted towards your feature (only your heats) What I would like to do is add it so it is. Simply by giving you points (only for qualify NOT counted towards nightly or season points) So say you draw 1 for that night of qualifying you would be given a qualify bonus of 17.5 points going down by half a point every pill afterwards so 2 being 17 so on and so forth down to 0. It would actually make it so pulling a 1 is a really good thing as it is right now if you pull 1 or a 35 it doesn't make a difference you're going to start up front in one of your heats.

So now it would be Heat 1 + Heat 2 + Pill draw points = Total qualifying points

This would ensure any sand bagging would be taken care of. you could pull really bad on your pills and still manage to maintain an somewhat avg starting position even with a handicap of 100%

(I changed the pills to have it in a decreasing fashion rather then an increasing fashion it makes more sense this way after I looked over it.)

Interesting to see how it will actually work out.
A million ways to skin a cat and no perfect way.
any handicap system that can be easily followed by spectators is a good idea.

sounds like it could work out

so then you take your qualifying points from that night and factor in handicap from the previous 3 weeks features / heats as well? that would make it very interesting. just lots of math and factos involved between the heats and the features to determine quickly what the starting feature order is. If you have time to do the math afterwards it wouldn't hurt to try.
