I know this is a little off topic, but for those of you who know Shawn, #55 in pure stocks, we heard from him today from Targa, him and Mike Davenport finished 24th overall, and first in their class...... they did very well, and Shawn's hope to be back for Sunday.....

The magic about 18 is that the best 18 finishes are counted in the NASCAR Whelen standings.

There is no minimum to qualify for the NASCAR Whelen point fund money.

Last Sunday was the cutoff for the NASCAR Whelen national championship and was meant to be the cutoff for scoring points.

The Speedway was able to negotiate with NASCAR an extension to get another week of points racing in given all the rainouts. Since the Barrie guys are way out of the running for the National standings (and whatever other criteria NASCAR decided to use); an extension was granted. You will note on the NASCAR site that it now says final points won't be posted until the 25th; earlier in the week they had last Wednesday's date there.

The deal with the Barrie drivers being so low in the standings is because of the shorter season and the points are awarded 2 per car in the feature to a maximum of 50 for the winner. With 17-18 cars, our guys get 34-36 points for a feature and for tracks that can start 25 or more and get 50 points, you can see the difference. Lots of American tracks also start fast cars up everynight and that makes a big difference in the win totals at the expense of putting on a show for the fans. I think it is much better with the fast cars to the back myself.

So given our shorter season, the number of rainouts and the car counts that is why under the current scheme you won't see a higher finish in the standings. I believe that there will be some Speedway lobbying for changes over the winter.
