Just want to see what everyone thinks...

He got the black, but the black flag dosn't mean DQ. I really think he deserves points for starting the race. I can't find or think of an example of "ignoring" the flag man resulting in a DQ. Rather the norm is the loss of any progression in the race after that..

But he came on the track while the green was out - end of discussion

Quoted from Sunset Speedway General rules 2006, which were the same for 2007, 2008.

http://web.archive.org/web/20060218154308/www.sunsetspeedway.ca/2006/tech/2006_general_rules.pdf

d) Cars may enter the pit area under green flag conditions in a safe manner. No re-entry
under green flag conditions
.
e) YELLOW FLAG/LIGHT indicates caution on the track. All cars will slow down
immediately and pull into line behind the car ahead. If two cars are running side by side,
the inside car takes preference. Proceed with caution until the starter and scoring tower
finalizes the line-up. Failure to slow down under caution may result in being placed at the
rear of the field. Unsportsmanlike driving under yellow flag conditions will result in
disqualification or penalty by the starter. Drivers causing a yellow may be subject to a
penalty.
f) In the event of a yellow flag, the cars will be lined up in the running order of the last
completed lap as determined by the scorer with lapped cars going to the back. All
involved cars will go to the back of the cars running on their lap. An involved car shall be
a car that is directly involved in the yellow flag condition regardless of their fault. The
decision of who shall be considered an involved car shall be at the discretion of the
starter. The starter may get advice from the tower officials and other on-track officials,
but the final decision remains with the starter.
g) Any car that takes the original green flag in any race and leaves the track for repairs
will be permitted to return to the race under yellow flag conditions. This includes the
display of the white flag indicating one lap to the green flag. Absolutely no pit stops
allowed on the track surface; track officials may offer no assistance (i.e. pulling out
rubbing fender, removing loose bumper or other part). Any car that does not take the
original green flag may not be permitted to enter the race at any time. Once the track has
gone green, no cars will be permitted to enter the race
.

I would think the DQ is a result of violating that rule not ignoring the black as I really don't think it was ignored.

I think many racers wait for the second black flag to be shown to be sure it is for them, when you are in a pack of cars racing it is sometimes difficult to see if it is directed at you or not..Am I wrong? I have seen someone leave the track thinking the black flag was for them and it wasn't...Let's face it there have been issues with the flagging all year..they have to get their act together.

A Black Flag is much differnet then a DQ, unless..and only unless the person gets the Black flag and keeps going, or if they get the Black Flag and argue with an official in a threatening fashion...then the Black Flag can become a DQ issue.

Otherwise the Black Flag means you need to report to your pit or the infield for an infraction on the track, or, if your car is in need of repair, or if your car has the ability to cause problems for others on the track.

A DQ ( disqualified position or spot) is normally handed out by an Official in either the Tech Area or after the fact of an incident on or off track.

This is another great reason for radio's in any series...
" Is that Black Flag for me or are they waiving it at someone else ?? "

The best rebuttal to a Black Flag is a Black Eye, and instead of getting DQ'd, give the flagman a K.O. !!

And if an Official says to you that you are getting DQ'd - tell him you want the Chocolate Dip with sparkles on it !!
