A rookie is not as straight forward as you may think....

How many races do you have to run to be eligiable for the award?

If you ran the year before, but only a few races (what number is the cuttoff) are you a rookie?

Can you step down a class, i.e. LLM rookie of the year, running for 4-fun rookie the next?

Is there a minimum number of races you have to run, in a year to be a rookie. For example, one guy runs 4 races and scroes more points than another "rookie" who ran all the races?

How does the track even know if you are a rookie? They don't know what you've run years before, for example, someone may have run the same class 20 years ago at a different track, how does that track know what they are?

In a case such as rookie of the year, if you beleive you are in the running for it, you really should be talking to the track to confirm the details before the awards.

Hope that clears it up a bit for you...

You check off a box on your sign up form that you will be eligible for rookie status this season.

As far at the rookie of the year for 4 cylinder this year I went to the banquet with the person that got this trophy. He knew he had raced in this division before although not completing a full season he did race more than 4 races. He also knew who should of been deserving of the rookie of the year and went over to congratulate him and he gave the trophy to Stacey Clarke.

Like I said I did attend the banquet last night. It was not very well attended at all but the people that were there did seem to enjoy themselves.

A few points:
- The roast beef dinner was awesome!!!
- There was no trophies for positions 4 through 15 anymore
- First place no longer wins a jacket!
- The payouts were not very much
- Awards were handed out to track staff, volunteers and sponsors (nice touch)
- They held a charity auction which had good intentions but went on way too long (about an hour or hour and half)
- It was announced our pit steward Bill will now replace Bryan Watt and Vic will now be our pit stewart
- The roast beef dinner was awesome!!!

Having seen the form, it asks you to check off the box if you are a rookie, but it dosn't tell you what a rookie is..

Possibly Stacey Clarke, didn't check off the box? Who knows.

I think what the story here should be is the sportsmanship on the part of "the person" who handed off the award. There is no joke in that...

Without a doubt that was a good sportsmanship thing to do handing the trophy over like that.

What I have found with racers is they really don't want to win anything they didn't earn. Winning by defeat, rain outs, scoring errors or any error is not the same as winning it from honest competition.
