So Junior, am I correct that your huge post can be summarized in the following way:
"Don't question the decision because they have spent a lot of money on the track and they didn't want to run a show for the fans and the drivers at a loss"
Correct?
Incorrect, Im just saying, instead of coming down on them, just give it a rest. When someone wants to do something for you, do you ( the bashers) not you (marcusfan) talk down to them? no, or atlest I would hope not. They know they made a mistake, they have ackowledged that.
Okay Ladies and Gentlemen;
Lets get over this track bashing, and get on with life... Junior has said nothing wrong,he tells it like it is and was.. Only some people like to think so, he has been straight up since the episode last year about the tires and a mould being broken. There is more than one mould in case one has problems. Check out the facts behind that deal. Some one else tried to bluff their way out and got caught. We know what has happened this past year, and unfortunately a lot of races had to be called. These people who are complaining about races being cancelled, why are yous not owners or managers??????? The owners of Sunset may have made a bad call, but who would have hauled cars from a long distance only to find out it was cancelled? With the price of fuel these days would be costly. At least the owners put their money where it is suppose to be improving the track. Not like some owners who is only in it to line their pockets and do not care about who they step on and send out of their tracks to where people are honest and fair. I for one, look forward LORD willing to seeing the major improvements that are coming. I say "WELL DONE TO THE OWNERS AND MANAGEMENT OF SUNSET. Thank you for a great season and better ones coming.
Ok, so I have read the posts, listen to people whine and complain verbally, read the crap on FB. Here is a way to look at things. The call was made by the "ownership" not "the management", and I have first hand knowledge that my dad actually tried talking them out of the decision so its not a case of people not wanting to work like "poacher" has so kindly stated. The ownership group made a slip up yes, but hey! when they slip and fall, lets put a sword underneath them, those owners that put almost $100k into the place just this summer alone and have over $500k ready to spend on track improvements over the winter. The same owners who didnt shut the lights off because they were losing their shirts one night, they never asked the drivers to run for 1/2 the $$ because nobody showed up in the stands, Pit road was paved along the back stretch, the dust level was cut atleast in half by pouring concrete infront of the stands, Drivers were set as FREE when they showed up to race, the concessions were disinfected and made more sanitary, and the list goes on and on and will continue to grow on positives as the winter comes and goes. But hey! lets not point out that, let point out the mistake (that they are well aware they made) and crusify(sp) them for it? Hell, if it was me throwing that kind of money around, I would sure wanna clam up in a hurry after seeing all the ungreatfulness. Now life also goes with the reality that you cant please everyone and there are people that no matter what gets done or what they get, it will never be good enough.
Here is how it was put to me after I politely inquired about the decisions.....They are very very successful businessmen, they are at the point they are at for a reason and its not because of stupid decisions.....there have been mistakes along the way and they learned from them in a hurry along the way......in which case they already have over this decision this past weekend. So, you have $500k set aside for paving, reconfiguring, pit road, lighting, etc.... and its iffy to run on a weekend the weather man is calling for rain, all of that $$$$ is accounted for and you decide to run, lose $20k or $30k for the weekend because nobody parked their arses in the stands. Where do you recoup that $$ from?? That $500k, so now you are down to $$470k? What do you cut out of the off season construction? So no matter what, its a lose lose situation because people will complain about cancelling but if they run and lose their shirts and not be able to follow through on a promise and get dragged over the coals for that?
The reality is someone did not want to work this weekend, someone said to hell with it. Someone was tired of getting yelled at, so they pulled the plug on all of us. That is the truth, that is what a staff member was told when they showed up for work on Sunday !!!
So the above quote is irrelevant, I know first hand and I am not trying to sound better than you nor am I trying to argue with you, I am just staing facts.
The next time the weather looks iffy for the weekend, just cancel the whole thing Thursday or Friday, and save pissing off the entire province on the largest event of the year!! Even today, Monday the skys have cleared at noon, and it piss-poured all morning.
I wonder if J.P. will look out his window at 7:30am and say, "ah its crappy from last nights rain, so lets just cancel the Autumn Colors Classic.
Im so glad I wasted money on tires for this weekend!
Charlie, if they were to do that, you would complain regardless, and Im sure you would just run elsewhere.......how many times did management stick it out regarding the weather and get the show in??? So one bad decision from ownership and you go off about it (shaking head)
not being a dink here jr but, if they only have 500k for improvements not much is going to change. ask gord coates 1 million just to pave barrie years ago. 500k won't get shit these days!
I have to agree with the Prince on the 500K not being enough especially if they are talking about a reconfiguration. I think Delaware has spent that much already or maybe more. Maybe they have scored some of that stimulus money love! 😉 To build a two lane highway the rule of thumb is 1 mil per km. Or it used to be, probably more now. Maybe Jr dropped a zero ???
eyeball, not to stir up shit but here it goes. i don't remember too much bashing as you said in your post. i for one try as hard as possible to make a positive relationship with both tracks and have thoroughly enjoyed the last two years, especially the invi's at sunset. you have the nerve to call me, and i quote "Polish NOT Prince" need i say more? ??? our little grudge matches with herbie and so on, we need more of that fun stuff and it brings the drivers, fans and tracks together. IMO!
