so what class is the entry class then? Just because cars and or a division advance in rules and therefore costs, doesn't stop it from being an entry class. Until Sunset offers another more inexpensive class, I'm afraid the pure stocks are it. Maybe stock riding lawn mowers out in the parking lot?

LOL - there are guys in south that are spending upwards of 5 grand on John Deere, Craftman and Kubota lawn mower chassis and racin them...nothing is sacred anymore 🙂

well ma bee this is what is killing racing my vote will always go to keeping a class the same year to year meaning if it is a pure stock class keep it that way ". (quote) Wesley motorsports

hey - don't drag me into this.. LOL - dang - too late. Okay... breath and dive in.... no wait, I better not, all it ever does is get everybody annoyed with a perspective that often is considered biased, thus useless...

Entry class racing - Go Karts - everything else;

Circle Track Cheap (make your own mind what that means) - Four Fun / Mini-Stock
Circle Track - step to advanced suspension and engine tuning - SS / Thunder / Sportsman
Circle Track - advanced without out of province travelling while managing to spend something less than what your house is worth - Limited Late Model / Late Model
Circle Track - local elite spending of money (and you never care where it came from - even if it means selling the kids - though some have found out nobody will buy them - thus have parked their cars) - OSCAAR Super Late

Circle Track - advanced with race teams' paying tech officials to keep things relatively inbounds - while spending more than your entire life's career income; if you don't have 5 sponsors. NASCAR Canadian Tire

Circle Track - so advanced all we do is rave or rip about the drivers - cuz we'll never get there ourselves - Any U.S. based NASCAR, ARCA, CRA, UARA development series and of course, Nationwide and Cup. And they still go out of bounds!

As soon as you enter circle track racing with four real rubber tires bigger than 8 inches in diameter, the word "stock" should be obliterated...It just doesn't exist.

As to what is "killing" racing - there's too many small answers that snowball into the "why's"...

Everything from the economy to lack of "excitement" in our sport when compared to other opportunities where people want to spend their hard earned money. Is it possible to turn around - I think so. Would stock or entry level make the difference *shrug* I have no idea. By far, the Four Fun / Mini-Stock class at EVERY asphalt race track has the highest car count - period. That doesn't mean that fans want to see that class as the 'main' event - though at some tracks - this class (by far) is the most fiercely battled division and is highly entertaining.

A few posts ago, in the Delaware section - The Crowdpleaser pointed out a plain fact; many fans fall on either side of agreeing or disagreeing with the following observation; have 14 to 16 highly competitive and close quarters combat or 24 to 30 with lots of lapped cars with the potential for lots of wrecks and stupid driver moves... fans love the latter in large numbers - I dare say as much as they do watching rubbin is racing with the top 6... again *shrug* there's no single answer or fix. Notice how the rules - let alone the issue of "stock" doesn't even enter this paragraph - we got bigger problems that just leveling the playing field and getting cars back onto the track.

I have visited 5 different race tracks this year - Barrie, Sunset, Kawartha, Mosport and Peterborough. All are facing the same issues with rising costs to operate, below average car counts and lower attendance - except one; Sunset Speedway.

Our sport doesn't market itself very well (here in Canada) with the press - despite the glorious work by Race Time Radio and others. We can't even get Canadian Tire races "live" - Curling gets more attention than we do... We can't blame promoters as the culprits - we have as much too lose as they do - if not more. Perhaps it's too far fetched to suggest that we are all in this together - thus we ALL need to fix it as a whole 'race community' or we're gonna keep spinning and arguing these same points till one day, it really will be too late and the gates close on our home tracks.

Rule #1 needs to be - let's get better, faster and MORE competitive as a community and stop bickering about who did what with their cars.

Rule #2 should be - let's help the tracks with our support to encourage more people to come out and attend.

Rule #3 can be implemented as - let's help novice fans and new drivers and teams with how to go fast and compete to give fans something to root about - with every car out there...not just a few or the best.

Easier said than do tho...
