The idea of the "Sunset Girls" was a good thought in all, but I think it has come off wrong. I've spoken to people and saw others who didn't appreciate the idea of it.
The idea of the amount, should actually say lack of amount, of clothing they're wearing is totally off bounds. There are younger children whom are at the track and it's something that they don't need to see; they should be seeing something that has more class and dignity. We've already got enough people in this world in the media that are showing these girls the wrong image.
Also, a lot of people were disagreeing with them as a whole (those whom I spoke to) as they didn't feel it was needed - kind of a stupid side gimick on the side of the racing - when it should be the racing that's set as the most important item.
Lastly, there were some whom didn't want the girls in those photos yet they still got in there and I think that's the wrong. These are the win photos that the driver and those whom are with that driver will cherish for years to come so they should be as the driver wants them, and not what is expected with these girls having to be in them.
I don't know what the rest of you have to say with regards to this but this is just my opinion.
i wish barrie had trophy girls, *sigh* i wish barrie had trophys ::)
If you read Speedway Illustrated on "rate your race track", it scores tracks with trophy queens high.
I think its a cool idea to have the girls. Trophy girls are a part of racing just as much as the trophy itself. Just look at NASCAR, they have pretty girls standing in victory lane all the time. Besides, no other track has thought of it yet, and lets be honest, stock car racing is a MALE dominated sport. And if im gonna race and win, im gonna do it at the track where I can stand beside some beutiful ladies!
(Besides, everyone around my area was flirting with them :))
I can see using the ladies as they are ladies, and not girls. "BUT " Have them wear longer pants! I heard a lot of derogatory comments about their appare ll where I was sitting. Also if they are going to be there, then stay for the whole show, not run away because they got tooooooo cold. Other than that, it was another great show as always.
I believe the management team is trying lots of new and innovative ideas to make Sunset the great racing facility it will be. As for the girls I surely didn't mind but my wife made mention more then once that she didn't think it was appropriate in a family environment. Maybe if the clothes (lack of) was a little less skimpy it may have been more acceptable. Â
