Topper, you answered your own question in the last paragraph:
quote compensate for a driver's inability to react quickly enough to wheel slip.quote
With traction control you just mat the gas and do not worry about having to pedal the car in the corners, the traction control eliminates or greatly diminishes wheelspin, gaining you corner speed and straight line speed. Kinda decreases the driver skill that is required. That is why it is outlawed virtually everywhere in oval track racing, and also why there is a market for the hidden traction control devices that are readily available.

The thing i cant understand is as i was watching the video of the race and after the big wreck on lap 1 the 47 had a heck of a time keeping pace with the 22 and 82 until they ending up spinning and having to go to the back. Also noticed as the 47 was crossing the finish line the 51 was coming out of turn 4 not more than a half straightaway behind. So what was the 47 doing that the 51 wasnt, probably nothing as both cars were just hooked up for the big race.I am sure if not for that lap 1 wreck you would have seen a much much better race but all in all still a really good race to watch.
Skidder, you nailed it. Basically both the 51 and the 47 did not have to pass anyone to get to the front. They started 9 and 10, 6 cars gone on lap one, then 22 and 82 a few laps later, so now the 51 and 47 are on the front row for what amounts to a 60 lap race. They drove off and got the benefit of having the flagman move cars for them.
Another way to look at it, if the 47 was knocked out in the first lap wreck, then the 51 would have lapped the entire field. If that happened, do you think this thread would still be going?
well put skidder and mini stock. Of the top 10 cars that quailified the 51 and 47 were the only 2 that didnt get involved in some sort of wreck. So if that wreck didnt take place it would have been a very different race.
