it is to no ones benefit to have 3 shows on the same date but as it has been said there are only so many dates so there will be some over lapping. all the tracks can do is try and do the best for ta not to happen and I think this will be the best year for that.

I hope so but, I'm not optimistic. I would love to see your program be a success but, not at the expense of our car counts. We have been very fortunate in the past to maintain a solid fan base but, if there isn't a quality product on the track, that too will decrease. Varney drivers tend to be very loyal for the most part and are not easily lured away so, I don't think we would lose too many cars to Sunset. My concern has always been with tracks saying they are working with each other but not following through. There is so much potential for various series that incorporates more than one track but, for whatever reason, no owner wants to break the ice and say, "yes, let's do this. let's have a three track limited late series with common rules, point funds and a share of the "special" or "invitational" races."
The only thing that will help racing in Ontario really flourish is to think outside the box. Imagine Walters, Parker and McLellan all tied for the points lead going into the first Invitational at, say, Sunset. Fans would love seeing their hometrack drivers racing each other but, also racing against cars competing at other tracks. Is anyone catching my drift here? This sort of thing has been done before with success. They called it NASCAR.

that would be great varney! i believe mark when he says that he doesn't want tracks to shut down! he's a racer and hes been fortunate to make a living of it, in canada for that matter, his whole life. he sure must know what hes doing. i hope that these series races are super successful and that drivers that don't usually travel show up. then when its the other tracks special the drivers from other tracks do likewise!

That depends on what division of NASCAR you're referring too. If it's their HomeTracks program or Modified SW Tour,  then yes, it does work in some regions of the U.S. Other divisions rarely cross over to a home team racing at another track, because they are all travelling series events to begin with.

U.S. NASCAR affiliated Home Tracks in the Carolina's have the same problem we do and has spread elsewhere, in particular, Florida.

Late Models in that state have regrouped under a non-NASCAR banner, primarily FAST - Florida All Star Tour, harmonizing SLM, LM and LLM (Crate and Built) cars into a 12 race season (Feb. - Nov) racing at 7 different Florida venues, realizing that car counts were dwindling across all the different tracks in all 3 classes.

One of the unique aspects of the series is that you could run any one of the 12 events and not be required to register for all 12 races. 21 teams registered for the full year,  yet attracted a total of 74 different teams over the year and averaged 26 cars per event. These races did compete or run in conjunction with other feature races on the same night at each venue.

The Sunset "Late Model" open invitational is probably the best model for all the tracks trying to harmonizing LM and LLM rules which is similar to how Kawartha has combined them for it's LM division. Doing so allows promoters at all the tracks in Ontario to run similar Invitationals at their venue, potentially allowing for the expansion of the Stefko / McColl series.

No track needs to be shut out from hosting invitationals, its a matter of will power and a management decision to go ahead and trying running one of the events. If a venue doesn't want to do it - that's up to them. It shouldn't be a point of accusation that one track's program is going to affect another when there are options to work within a potential solution that's there for the taking on a silver platter. (I'm not suggesting that Varney is whining...)

Even if a track doesn't want to align itself to a specific travelling series, they can, at their elective, run the same rules as other invitational events are and run a special anyway! It's not rocket science...

First I would like to say that by no means do I want to see any race track close remember I make my living at racing wheather it be at the speedway, managing teams or driving without race tracks there is no living, this program is not to steal cars from speedways we are very happy with our car counts and the level of competition in the past.
I believe that programs like this are needed to keep racing alive from a racers point of view and most of all a fans this will create a lot of excitement in the pits and grandstands and that is what racing is all about people cheering and people booing it has to be fun and have atmosphere to sit and look at each other bored after you paid money to get there sucks in my opinion that is what will kill racing.
As for the comment about Sunset running all these specials on the Sun of the long weekends that is false if you look at our schedule in the past we have always run something on the long weekend yes and that will not change we have Oscaar on 2 of them same as in the past and invitationals on the other 2 same as the past but I will also run a min of 4 Sun on off weekends something that everyone is scared of I am not put on a good show and they will come and as far as the other tracks we do work together on schedules and will continue to do so it is to no ones benefit to have 3 shows on the same date but as it has been said there are only so many dates so there will be some over lapping all the tracks can do is try and do the best for ta not to happen and I think this will be the best year for that.

How does this 5 race series fit in with plans of the OSA for 2011 Mark?
