not to change the subject or anything but i'm a little curious as to the ruling on the restart when baker shot past the lapped cars , when he was lined up next to walters . the green didn't drop yet and he shot past the cars. they waited until the next caution and it was explained to the crowd that a rule was put into place that you could either lose a spot on the track now or after the checkerd flag . i looked in the rule books and i couldn't see anything about this procedure . can anyone shed some light on this ?
Racerrob....if you're refering to Sat night Baker was ding for green. He has to wait until the lead car, in this case Watson passes the line going into corner 3 on the backstretch before he moves forward. If you check out the video, and the pic on one of the threads that Danka posted you can see that when Watson hit that line, Baker was already half way past the 10. If a caution hadn't come out, and Baker would have won he would have learned then that he was dinged a spot. So I guess he's lucky that caution came out because I"m pretty sure that was the last one in the race was it not?
FYI RacerRob...the pic and discussion about this was earlier in this same thread. Check it out, you might understand better. Hope that helps!
The restarts were much better last night in the "Sunset divisions" with the double file and lapped cars to the back as opposed to the 1-2-3 double up with lappers in the mix.. It produced way more excitement from a fans perspective, and some really tightly bunched packs at the front of the fields.. Kudos to Mark Dilley for changing this as well as those folks that lobbied for it..
Congrats to #48 Dwayne Baker on his first ever feature victory in a Super Late.. The #9 of Watson wasnt letting him get away however, and almost made the pass racing into turn 1 on a few different occasions..Too bad the #00 of Isaacs broke, I had him running a 13.22 in one of the earlier heat races.. 😮
WOW. What a crowd on a Sunday at Sunset, a Sunday! And it was not even a special for pure stocks or superstocks, it was just regular racing. Makes you wonder what the real invitationals will be like.
The only thing I see that the track needs to work on now is the amount of time it takes to run the show. Last year it was nothing to be out of that place at like 9.30 in some cases. They went back to 2 heats so that doesnt help the time issue. The other thing is the dirt that gets pushed up onto the track every time a car wipes out, its insane. They need a sweeper not 6 guys with corn brooms!!
But good job having those 6 guys pushing brooms not 2 like other tracks. Also the winner get the checkard flag in turn 3 and they have like 10 checkard flags up on turn 3 wall to hand out so they dont waste time. Lots of planning has gone into this track good job Mark and Staff. It will only gett better!
Guys need to stop racing this track like its Barrie or Varney, its to fast, 3 thunders have gone home in boxes. Start racing with some respect this is a speedway now not a short track in my opinion.
+1 Charile I agree especially with the clean up crew. They worked damn hard lastnight thats for sure. I was thinking maybe they need either 2 crews or a sweeper. When spills go all the way around or when its 2 separate incidents. Maybe have the push truck as backup and that guy can start on the secondary issue to speed time up. Great work and kudos to them! I totally like the checkered flag idea this year also its very good.
