I agree with at least 1-way radios (raceceivers). "Back in the day" cars were not as fast or as sophisticated as they are now. Raceceivers can be used for a safety feature or to get the cars lined up. The most important thing is that racing is in the entertainment business and you must keep the show going or you will disappoint the crowd! People do not come out to watch the pace laps.
In our touring series it is now mandatory to have either 2 way radios or raceceivers. Everybody has accepted them and I do believe they have assisted especially in accident situations.
Agreed, and those racecievers are worth their weight in gold as far as keeping the show moving...although in the old days they used to get the assistant starter down on the track to get em all sorted out...that was pretty entertaining too sometimes.
Just wanted to throw in there that I don't actually beleive the 2 way radios are the reason racing's gotten rougher...they were just sort of the instigating factor AFAIK. The old rule was that up to the door, its the leaders lane, and if he's past the door, then the passer got the lane. Plain and simple and it worked for years.
Introduce spotters in the mix, and suddenly you lose the "self policing" that comes from the old rule. You get guys moving up and down in the corners way more because you have a guy on the radio telling you you're clear...you don't have to think about it, therefore its not part of the thought process any more.
That's why I don't like them.
Plus, IMO, having spotters smacks of "Winston Cup Wannabe" syndrome for me. This is Saturday night Thunder...Friday if you're at Del. Why do the guys need to have one more guy's way to pay in, and one more piece of equipment they need to buy? Is it just so they can be like the big boys on TV?
Is it just so they can be like the big boys on TV?
yes....lol
just checked with Jeff. its twin 25's with time trail qualifying. Should be up on delaware.com shortly.
stay on topic!!!you been here long enough to know the rules lol ;D ;D ;D
One way radios and if we are talking about Sunset, maybe a second flag stand on the other side of the track . It worked at Barrie when they used it. Just an idea. As far as two way radios, no way, it leads to spoters driving the cars and thats all we need. The drivers out there now seem to be doing a good job, maybe we should leave things alone.
