Just because they are in the rules does not mean you have to have buy it was my point, my 7.5 metric and glide work fine for now. I would like the option on a manuel or floater. The 2101 is a no brainer as stated numerous times on here, they range from $130 to $200. Thats pretty cheap, and I have no problem spending that and easy to tech. There are 2 cars in our class that are top notch, no money was spared and it shows.JMO
Which 2??
hello tex, RACING IS MONEY! there is absolutely no way around it, i've looked really hard. put these things in the rules as OPTIONS not mandatory. add a few pounds here or there and as people get the dough upgrade.lets see how long your $100 , 40 year old glide lasts without a rebuild or a trick converter. blame brad moran and ron mace for the bastardized thundercars of today, they introduced the "new gen" and destroyed the thunders as we knew them. they created the wallet game in this division. so why not outlaw 2 or 3 cars and leave the rest alone, not going to happen!!! it's called evolution and it has been going on since racing started. the llm of today, 4 or 5 years ago were the challengers and we were the pure stocks. like it or not we are now challengers and the only reason people are having a hard time with this is because we aren't introducing another lower class v-8 division. create the challenger division and go back to the real thundercars that were affordable and non adjustable, i'll bet you would get great car counts in both. i don't want to spend anymore than you, but 1 or 2 g's a year in upgrades isn't that bad. the llm's of today are pricing themselves out of range really fast and in a couple years we will be llms. you can't stop it unfortunately. the floater is a huge safety issue, the 2101 saves you money, the manuals save you, the track and the fans grief(eliminates oil downs) and in the long run $$$$$ as long as they are teched properly. headers save you money, qa1's last forever. it may seem like alot at first but we will all be happier in the end. people are going to spend money regardless so lets try and make it as painless as possible. put the thunders back on street tires and the challengers on the tracmaster, and one wheel peels on the thunders again, no spools, welded or posi's. i think we have enough for two divisions, i really do!!!!
Okay so Jim... I don't know how headers are going to save me money when I already have a pair of one year old manifolds... They're $125 a side brand new from Dorman... They're still good so why would I want to dump them? Same with the 9"... Bought brand new for $1300 + the gear, haven't broken any axles yet, had lots of contact this year... You Metric guys all want floaters, I don't need it. And besides if you all were so concerned about safety, you could ask to have the safety clips from Moser for the metric rear ends mandated in the rules. It's like $200. Yeah I get it racing costs money, believe me, I'm investing very heavily in it this year, you don't have to tell me about it. Furthermore, which two or three cars would you outlaw? The #00 and #44 because they're too fast but completely LEGAL? I said I can pick up a Powerglide used for $100, I never said I'd put it in without having a look inside it first, and replacing what needs replacing... And I haven't seen any Muncie M21 close ratios around for $100... Plus clutch and everything else, shifter, linkages, pedals, driveshaft... Again a 40 year old transmission that should be gone through... As to the New Gen, how did that screw everything up? A body is a body, look at the fast "old gen" cars... They're the same thing as the new gen. The body doesn't matter. Your buddy Rick Walt has a new gen old gen, probably the most radical of them all... The big deal is how far set back some of the cages, and whether or not the hoop is canted... All I'm getting at is I'm not spending thousands to update a fast car, that's bull****. And most of the time if there's an oildown it because someone did a crappy job on the lines, or the case broke for whatever reason.
The safety issue all boils down to this and you can feel free to quote me whenever you like. You are only as safe as the worst POS on the track. So if one guy is still driving around out there with a 7.5 Metric with no safety clips or an automatic with a piss poor job on the lines, or has a backstretch yard sale with his $200 350 out of a bus or whatever... That's how safe you are. I pretty well guarantee you someone is gonna show up with one of those cars. I might have had one of the slower cars before, but it didn't spew, smoke or grenade once we got it figured out. The current line up at Sunset has 4 or 5 regular feature no starts... Just telling it like it is... You're gonna have one of those cars in front of you sooner or later, lots of guys don't have $2000 for this floater deal...
Also adding yet another division to the 3 existing divisions is not in line with the Sunset Speedway priority of the 3 hour show. A lot of nights push this envelope already... You might have enough cars, but I don't think they're interested... This would also mean you, and everyone else would race LESS. No thanks.
