Were we not allowed to run a 9 inch last year, and I thought it was cheaper to buy a floater by a couple hundred buck
I thought that also, maybe cheater can show us where he come up with that?
So, just going of off moser's site here are the comparos
BOLT-IN 9" FORD HOUSING AND AXLE PACKAGES
Most Housing Types $960
GM 'G' Body
Still need to supply brakes. Figure about 250 at the very most for backing plates, wheel cyls, drums and shoes.
P7H9FGNGN GN/Metric, GN Hubs, Full Floater, 9" Housing Pkg $929
Still need brakes, but you cant put drums on them. If you go with new, but budget minded parts, you can probably put brakes on it for around 200. And no caliper brackets, so figure 60- 80 bucks for the pair and someone smart enough to not put them on crooked. BUT, you buy howe calipers, stainless hoses, slotted rotors, hawk pads, Gun drilled axles, cambered housings, yada yada, the price gets big, fast.
Thats how i came up with that. Ive put 100 rearends in drag and circle track cars, i know what it really costs, im not just guessing.
TQKenny, Thayne, Howe centerlinks are expensive. Yes they make life easier to adjust the bump, but you bend it you throw it away. And bottom line, the guy with out the bucks will be at a disadvantage. If you read the rules most people are throwing out here, they "would" make the playing field a little more even for the mid pack guys to the cubic wallet racers.
Example, Who enjoyed spending good money this year on your engine, but some guys just blow your doors off on the straights? They may not have been better drivers, but they spent more than you, therefore they won more. Which blows.
Racings never fair, but frivoulous parts that cost a fortune should not be considered. Whats next? Billet idler and pittmans? Heim end tie rods? Howe spindles? Expensive parts are for dumb rich people that would rather buy their speed than work for it.
And Larry, i agree, making manauls legal wont stop cheating powerglides, but its a start.
Some of the oddballs out there with fords and dodges are going to have a hard time finding stick stuff for thier rides, those will be about the only holdouts past year one.
I know what the difference in power transfer is with a stick vs an automatic, from getting on the gas and the snap it has as well as engine braking coming in. You would have to be nutty not to run one if it was legal.
If i was a driver, i would be pushing for under A frame sway bars, like the old style late models. It makes the cars nice and free through the center, and its not a massive pain in the forehead to adjust.
Start with rules that make it cheaper and easier for you to race, none of this trick crap.
You see, floaters have both axles splined on both ends and a hub assembly with two outer bearings on it which is retained with a hub nut. The design of the floater keeps everything together in the event that you break an axle. That's a huge safety benefit. In a non-floater rearend if you break an an axle, you could lose the wheel, which can be dangerous. Imagine a wheel bouncing down the track with the hub assembly and axle still attached. That situation has the potential to end very poorly.
Quote from circle track...
Thanks Cheater for the info, my dad and I looked and priced out a few weeks ago what it would cost to do alllll of the proposed changes and it was just under 6 G's (We know what Bayside wants! haha) I think the big think with suspension parts like what me and kenny were talking about is that finding new ones is damn near impossible..I have been looking since July. Buying the Billet one would just be easier....it isn't about cubic dollars or anything.
At bsw, what make and model are these new gen. chassis built on,and do they have the stock wheel base and is the engine in the stock position??
