I think you hit it right on the head, a little time of getting used to not as much room as before and things will work out fine!!
Two suggestions. 1 How about a concession trailer or booth to serve only the pit crowd and would also take burden off the one that tries to serve both the pits and fans. How about when there is two heat classes the one takes the track and the other takes the infield. This way the racers actually get a chance to watch some racing and you could in fact be lining up the next two in the pits make things move faster or something to that effect..
Parking next race lineup in pits was suggested to JP about 2 or three times now, not sure why they do no at least try it, works well at Barrie.
A dedicated food booth for pits sounds like a great idea as well!
Kawartha had a practice schedule that indicated approximate times and the order in which the classes would go onto the track. Pit crews would monitor which class was on the track and who was next up for practice. Kawartha also has a separate PA system for the pits. Overall, their system for practice worked.
