I will agree with you on the Driver comparison. You have your talent at 20%, then your sponsored drivers at 45%, and the balance from rich homes!

The Tire issue at Indy was 100% the screwup of Goodyear Tire, who are very much in financial trouble and facing the facts that they may have to shut down Akron.
Nascar bent over backwards to try and put on a show at Tony's Speedway, and even went as far as bringing in 3 tractor trailer loads of tires from the allotment sitting at Pocono. The only reason those tires were not used at Indy instead of the Tire that was giving all the trouble is because Goodyear told Nascar there is no way they would have enough time to build tires for the Pocono race if they were to use the inventory at Indy.

Just wanted to point out what really happend... get your facts straight.

As for Nascar crushing Indy Car....LOL.... I mean really...LOL

P.S. Once upon a time Daytona was the biggest race in Nascar....and now it's Indianapolis.
Who did you say has the upper hand ???

The IRL and any suggestion of the upper hand  😀 has diddly to do with the fact that the NASCAR race at INDY overshadows DAYTONA.

Having been at both on more than 1 occasion they both can be very boring , and loads of empty seats at both venues this year.

NASCAR still has the upper hand here by leaps and bounds over the IRL and IMS, and I'll tell you why. Just as it costs a TON of money to wage a war between nations, it's cost the IRL a ton of money to win the civil war against CART/CCWS since 1996. With the Indy 500 diminishing in popularity, the Brickyard 400 gaining popularity by leaps and bounds and with the early results of unification looking to be (at best) a bust, where do you think the money to run the IRL is coming from? To make a long story short, Indy and the IRL need NASCAR and the revenue they provide, more than NASCAR needs Indy.

It's not coming from a title sponsor, they haven't had one in some time. It isn't coming from the TV networks; in fact, the IRL will have to pay for every race, minus Indy, to be on Versus/ESPN for the next 10 years. While major funding for the League came from the engine manufacturers a few seasons ago, Honda is chipping next to nothing into the League now, and makes rumblings about once an offseason about being unhappy about the direction of the League (no competition between manufacturers and the lack of turbos). As it stands now, most of the revenue coming into the IRL comes from the Speedway and the Hulman family fortune. Now, I don't know how well Clabber Girl baking powder is doing on the stock exchange lately, but I sincerely doubt it's paying much of the bills for the IRL and the Speedway. Hopefully you can connect the dots from there.

NASCAR can survive without Indy. The Speedway to an extent, and especially the Indy Racing League, need NASCAR in order to survive. Maybe the Grand-Am buyout is nothing but a shuffling of the Daytona Beach deck, or maybe it's positioning for a run at IMS. Considering how big the 400 is up there, you don't think NASCAR wants the whole pie, one way or another?

Boy. There is still a lot of NASCAR bashing on this site isn't there. I don't want to sound like a Nascar apologist but people shouldn't let their personal dislike for the Nascar formula get in the way of some facts. How many other series' have the variety of engine and manufacturers? Most other racing series' have only a few drivers/teams with a realistic chance of winning a race. Fan attendance has to tell something doesn't it? Other series' have some questionable rules and rulings also. Don't like the COT? Not much difference in car appearance in other forms of racing (in the same classes). I found the old twisted sister car of the past few years ugly as hell. If there was mass appeal for any other form of racing as there is in Nascar, wouldn't it show in some capacity? Race Tracks? Fan attendance? Sponsorships? Purses? Television coverage? Souvenirs?
I admit that I'm a bit of a Nascar junky, but I've been watching many different forms of racing for many years. I prefer "stock" cars on an oval track (preferably a short track) but enjoy a wide variety of racing. No one is forcing me to watch other forms of racing, I choose to. Why watch or go to something and then b*tch about it. Just don't watch (and then Nascar will fade away, right?) lol
As with other things in life, we sometimes think that we can do a better job than the people doing it now.
Gotta stop this rant now, my finger is getting sore from typing.
