OHSWEKEN SPEEDWAY CHAMPION PASSES AWAY

by Tommy Goudge (October 20, 2011) – The racing community in southern
Ontario lost one of its brightest stars on Monday with the passing of
Abel Castelein at age 54. Abel twice won the Mini Stock division
championship at Ohsweken Speedway, along with countless feature races,
but more importantly he won the respect and admiration of everyone at
the track.

Everyone at Ohsweken Speedway wishes to extend heartfelt condolences to
Abel’s family, friends, fans, and racing competitors who all lost a very
special person this week. Abel was a teacher by profession, and also by
nature in helping many of his fellow racers.

He was a great ambassador for Ohsweken Speedway, and racing in general.
He also competed on a regular basis at Merrittville Speedway and
Humberstone Speedway, and had great success at those venues during his
career.

Abel overcame several challenges this season to take a well-deserved
fourth place finish in the Ohsweken Speedway Mini Stock division
standings. He won two feature races at Ohsweken this year, including the
special Art Hill Memorial race. Abel’s final race was just a few days
ago at Delaware Speedway, where he finished third against drivers from
all across the province.

Friends may visit with Abel’s family at Kitching, Steepe, and Ludwig
Funeral Home (146 Mill Street North, Waterdown) on Monday, October 24
from 2-4p.m. and 7-9p.m. A celebration of Abel’s life will be held in
the chapel on Tuesday, October 25 at 11a.m.

Donations to a charity of your choice would be appreciated, and Ohsweken
Speedway would like to encourage everyone to sign the book of
condolences at www.kitchingsteepeandludwig.com
