The Belgian rookie took the lead from poleman Guillaume Deflandre (#56 CAAL Racing Chevrolet SS) on lap 3 and then had no problems defending it two times in restart during the 75-lap seventh round of the 2015 NASCAR Whelen Euro Series season.
“I’m so happy! I drove my first NASCAR race here in Tours one year ago and to be able to score this win for the team, for all my sponsors, for my family and especially for my dad,” said Longin. “He’s always helping me with his advice and with the troubles we had this year I can’t be more happy about this victory.”
Behind Longin, a fierce battle took place for second position and the points lead between Gianmarco Ercoli (#9 Double T by MRT Nocentini Chevrolet Camaro) and Thomas Ferrando (#37 Knauf Racing Team Ford Mustang). The Italian had the better hand in the second and last restart – the yellow flag waved for debris – on lap 56, when he overtook the Frenchman, ending up second and taking the championship lead by a single point.
Ercoli also posted the fastest lap of the race and will start on pole tomorrow ahead of Longin and Ferrando.
Former points leader Philipp Lietz (#67 GDL Racing Ford Mustang) managed to finish fourth after completing the first lap in eighth place. The Austrian sits now second in the standings, tied with Ferrando.
Ulysse Delsaux (#3 Tepac RDV Compétition Ford Mustang) completed the top-5 ahead of a rookie trio formed by Salvador Tineo Arroyo (#51 CAAL Racing Chevrolet SS), Florian Renauer (#5 Dexwet Renauer Team Ford Mustang) and Nicki Petersen (#44 GDL Racing Ford Mustang).
Didier Bec (#8 RDV Compétition Ford Mustang) led the Legend Trophy with the 9th place under the checkered flag, while Carole Perrin (#54 CAAL Racing Chevrolet SS) brought home the Lady Cup by closing the top-10.
The Gentleman Trophy went to Jerry De Weerdt (#78 Brass Racing Ford Mustang), who finished 17th.
The first yellow flag of the race was brought out on lap 13 by a spin from Stéphane Sabates (#55 Whelen - Amaï.fr Chevrolet Camaro) and led to an aborted restart, in occasion of which Guillaume Deflandre was black flagged for hitting Longin under yellow flag.
