Eddie Cheever III competitive but unlucky in the NASCAR Whelen Euro Series Semi Finals at Magione

Magione, Italy - Eddie Cheever III suffered a disappointing weekend in Magione, which hosted the 2015 NASCAR Whelen Euro Series Semi Finals. The driver of the #51 Toyota Camry, who recently went to the US to take part in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East round at Watkins Glen and entered the first NAPA Filters Drivers Expo powered by Toyota - a program for young and talented drivers promoted by Toyota in the States - in Roseville, showed a winning pace on his home race track all weekend long, but he was stopped twice by technical failures. Now the Rome-native driver lies seventh in the standings and third in the Junior "Jerome Sarran" Trophy classification.

After being very competitive right from the first practice session, Cheever III posted the third best time in a very close qualifying session on Saturday morning, a performance that made him hope for a positive weekend for the #51 Toyota Camry. Thanks to a great start in Race 1, the CAAL Racing driver took the second place early, just behind his team mate Day, ready to take his chances to win. Unfortunately, a problem to the differential around mid-race killed his dreams of glory, forcing him to retire.

Shook off the disappointment, in the Semi Final 2 Cheever was once again protagonist of a great start, that brought him at the top of the standings. Cheever dominated more than half of the race, but when he was already thinking about the checkered flag and a comeback in points, his Toyota was stopped on track by a problem to the accelerator cable.

"It was a nightmare weekend! Probably the worst one from my NASCAR debut. That's racing and we can't do anything about it. It's a shame because we raced on our home track in front of our supporters and would have liked to thank them with two good results," commented Cheever, now seventh in the standings, with a 77 points gap. "Our placing in the championship isn't the best and the gap is wide, but, as Magione demonstrated, in NASCAR Whelen Euro Series everything can happen until the checkered flag. Zolder will be tricky, but we'll fight unti math gives us a chance!"

The last round of the NASCAR Whelen Euro Series season is scheduled on October, 3rd and 4th, in Zolder, Belgium, a new track for the championship that will host the 2015 Finals.
