Now don't get me wrong, I am not smarter then NASCAR, but when they make a mistake, they make a mistake. The Montreal Grand Prix was in the hands of Robby Gordon, it was his race to win as it was everyone else's main objective, but the OTHER Gordon got caught with his pants down and no way to pull them up.
I have had personal falling outs with Robby Gordon and many know of his behaviour and history as being one of the biggest bad boys in NASCAR. Yes maybey true, but let me fill you in on something.
In 1999 we were in a IRL practise session and our driver seemed to have come down on Robby Gordon much to his dismay. After the practice was over Robby himself came into my hauler to voice his op-ion and had it in his mind that he was going to teach some lessons, in speech or in fists, I don't think it mattered to him. At the end of the argument he said something to me on the way out of my trailer that has always stuck with me.
Gordon's quote, "If you want to race me, race me fine, but don't try to beat me because I will rip and tear to run at the front".... his comments were made clear, and until that moment I always thought Robby was just a spoiled brat, but at that moment I realized this guy was a bigger racer then most people think.
Keep that in mind when I tell you this....
Gordon worked his way to the front, beaten, bangan and racin, but everyone knew he was going to be a factor at the end. He shoved his way to lead and figured the race was even as the yellow came out with three to go. Gordon slows up as he should and gets spun around- UNDER YELLOW.
Who should be leading in my eyes is Robby Gordon, but NASCAR see's it a different way and tells him to pull back in line around 17th.
Now folks this is Robby Gordon- " I will rip and tear to run at the front "
I don't think he did a single thing wrong except not listen to NASCAR... I don't think he had any intention to listen to NASCAR. In his eye's he was leading, and I must admit I think he was right.
If this would have been the other Gordon named Jeff, I am sure NASCAR would have gone back to the restart with the 24 car up front which can also be called favoritism, but it is a reality.
Robby Gordon is a racer and he has accomplished more laps in anything with a motor then anyone else in NASCAR. He is tough... He is Ignorant at times, He is the bad boy next in line to Stewart, He is the guy that is going to say whats on his mind, regardless on how big you think your sanctioning body thinks they are.... He is Robby Gordon, the unofficial winner of the Busch race at Montreal.
Shame on you NASCAR for not seeing the man as he is, always has been and always will be.
NASCAR needs to look at the whole picture here, but they didn't. Instead they fine him and park him.
This time the BLACK FLAG IS ON NASCAR.... Nice race Mr. R. Gordon.
not often do i disagree with you mid,but yes nascar did get something wrong. contray to what they say ambrose did spin mr gordon out under caution and should have been penalized for that. that being said no matter what he has accomplished robbie gordon is not bigger than nascar, when he put his name on the entry form he agreed to race under nascars rules, not just the ones he likes. i have always respected his little engine that could single car team, but to pretend what happened was nascar doing in robbie gordon is plain wrong no one did in mr gordon but himself, another example of my ego is bigger than the sport, see tony stewart, they do not have the right to race they have the privilege, his action were bush league to say the best in my humble opinion.
I'm not a big fan of R Gordon but he got shafted big time from Nascar and the other driver should have gotten something for his actions to Gordon.
Gordon passed him clean then a yellow came out and the other driver gave Gordon the punt and then Nascar says Gordon should go behind the 31 Car.
I think Nascar need to be haulled into a trailer for this bad call. Don't take this wrong what Gordon did after wasn't the right thing to do but you knew it was coming and why does he get parked for the Nextel Cup race?? he should not be allowed to go in any Busch races.
It is OK for others to punt others or ride beside and trade paint after a caution or at the end of the race like Harvick and Stewart have done and they don't miss races. People should be parked for a race for doing this in the pits where it is much more dangerous. Maybe it is because they have big sponsors. Gordon wasn't on probation was her before this?? I don't think so.
It all comes down to this...NASCAR made an awfull call, which made Robby awful upset and mase him do some pretty stupid things...NASCAR should release a public apo;logy to Robby for costing him the race, but Robby should also be repemanded because of what he did after he was given orders by NASCAR...The Black Flag is for both of them imo
blown call on ambrose. gordon did not have the lead at the last scoring loop, therefor ambrose gets the lead back, but should have been punished for contact under yellow. gordon went to 14th on restart because after he was spun he was passed by that many cars. never has nascar given back a position,in my memory, the only mistake nascar made was not penalizing ambrose.the rest was done by the book. robbie gordon made robbie gordon look like a spoiled child, you could hear him play stupid on tv during the yellow when his crew chief told him to fall back. the suspension is not for the hit on ambrose it is for is actions and disregard for what nascar was telling him. we have all been on the bad end of call in racing i am sure did we not go make a** of ourself on international tv and also make a mockery of this sport we all love, i like to think not.one race is not enough for the damage this goof has caused this sport in a market(canada) that already has a hard time taking it serious.
