Im all up for loud race cars... but I think they're loud enough as it is. I think CASCAR cars sound good the way they are.
I think they sound professional. Not too loud that it scares some of the less hardcore fans away (and maybe scare some of the sponsors as well.)
I guess Im always thinking about the business side of things. haha

A lot of townships are requiring noise studies around race tracks as a lot of residential houses are getting closer to race tracks and mufflers are going to be required at a lot more tracks in the future. I know the tracks have been there for a long time and the peaple moving in should expect the noise but it is the tracks that will have to change. I like it when I leave a Cascar race and my ears are not ringing for an hour later. I thinks Cascars have a great sound, I whish other race cars would get muffled as well. Just my thoughts

Seeing as I don't attend road courses, I can't really comment on this question, but it seems that some are branching out to include ovals, which I do attend, so I will.
When I was stationed out west, I used to attend the dirt track in Edmonton where they run Sprints on a weekly basis & they are required to run the mufflers there, as they can be loud when they run straight out of the headers, but I find this to be too much as I believe that Sprints should not be running mufflers... never mind that the track is right beside the Edmonton Airport where you have planes taking off around the clock! I remember one night in particular, they had the time-trialing & they measure each & every car's decibal level & if they exceed 100 Db, then their times are thrown out & they must re-time, which is what happened several times throughout the years I attended & probably still do.
I personally don't like mufflers on a race car, as I love the sounds & smells of a Sprinter, Modified or even better, a Supermod, especially at Oswego, where you can leave with your ears ringing for an hour after & your eyes & nose burning from the fumes from sitting in the covered grandstand area! LOL!
Like mapleleaf1 states, though, a lot of places are building up & more & more tracks are going to require the cars to be muffled & also have a curfew set, which do exist at pretty much most tracks nowadays anyways, like Flamboro, Peterborough, Kawartha etc. to name a few. Even the places that are out in the boonies like Peterborough & I imagine Ottodrome, where the only ones bothered (for the most part) are the local fauna & flora, will require them. Even though these tracks have been around for a lot more years than the local residents, they will still require the restrictions. One of the few places I have seen where the locals don't complain, is NBIS in Geary N.B., where they have no problem with the track.

Ummm nope it wasn't a diesel...I too agree with mapleleaf1 I don't like that ringing noise in my ears hours after a race. Cascars do have a sweet sound to them.

Lets face it anyone that has sat with me at a CASCAR race knows that I can be louder then any racecar anyway!
