"Quote- 85 Yellow flag laps...
I'd have thrown up if I had paid $45.00 to watch such crap.
Ya, they saw some great racing. 18 restarts/heat races with fewer cars in each one that added up to the CDN race scene saving 200 lap Nascar event.
I see better racing for free done by kids on bikes around my court.
I paid the money and kept my lunch and dinner inside me. It was an enjoyable race for a fan and it wasn't so obvious that cars were dropping out because the field was doulble filed each time. Knowing how it went, I'd still pay $45 to see it. 🙂

Just saw the Hamilton Spectator with the article written by Tim Miller.
It was not all that bad- but it was not all that good at the same time.
Quote- the grand stands were only a third filled...
Up until the National Anthems they were only a third filled but by the green flag the place was at least 75% filled to capacity. I guess the fans were taking in the snack bar or beer tent before the race but they did sit down to a good show (based on the fans determination not the racers).
Quote- 85 Yellow flag laps...
Yes the racing was a little over the edge for everyone and guys were taking chances that they normally would never take, thus the cautions. I would have to say the fans didn't mind the cautions as they have never seen that many wrecks at Cayuga.
Tim Miller is not a bad guy. His knowledge of racing is everything from Drag Racing, to Dirt, to Nascar, and he does a pretty good job of it. I just wish for once he would back us up as race teams as we all need the support right now. We could use all of the positive press releases possable in order to make this thing a go, and that is fact not fiction.
Its bad enough that the purse money was put out by the media, ( Winner paid $5050.00 and the next race at Mosport is only $3610.00) we need someone to start writing on the positive side of this deal.
Mid everyone I have spoken to has said that the place was about a 1/3 full which would put the crowd around 5K . Your estimate of 3/4 full would put the crowd at over 10K , somebody is way off the mark. Any race that is run almost 50 % under caution and has only 9 finishers is not a good race , I know there are those who go to the races to see wrecks but seeing expensive race cars tore up up makes me cringe and I would think that you as an owner would feel the same way. Let me remind you that Tim is not writing a "press release" he is writing a sports article which is suppose to be factual and not spin to make the series look good .
I thought that $ 5000 to win at Cayuga was bad but now that you say that they will pay $ 3600 to win a Mosport the series has reverted back to about the same money they paid to win in 1981 . Maybe they can get Bob Merrifield to bring back his Dodge Miranda with the automatic in it and Al Turner to bring his converted street stock Nova that they ran for that kind of money in the series.

That Dodge Miranda was cool. (I think you mean the one with Pepsi painted on the side) One of the more distinctive cars of the era, right along with Don Mallat's Corvette.
I agree with you Pinecrest. A big national series with a payout considerably less than regional series payouts were 25 years ago is a bit of a head scratcher.
Wow Shadow I didn't realize you were old enough to have seen Mallats Corvette but you are right that was a very cool car , I even liked the candy apple red he had it painted . Of the less then a handful of Corvette bodied stock cars I ever saw that was the best running one . The best race I ever saw at Barrie Speedway was the first CASACAR race held there a 100 lapper where Mallat led 99 laps only to be passed on the last lap for the win by Junior Hanley in his one and only CASCAR appearance .
Thinking about it those guys were getting paid more since they only had to go a 100 or a 150 laps for the same money as they are getting paid now.

Yup, I was around. Heck, I was there at Cayuga in 77 when Bieder took both halves of the Maple Leaf 250 in that sad-sack looking Nova.
But...put me at about 14 at the time that Mallat was running that vette. That vette was the only one I ever remember seeing on an oval.
