I would say that Kawartha does have something nice to offer fans and that is the weekly "custom car show" that they line up on the front stretch. This accomplishes 2 things, they give the driver of the car and 1 passenger free entry into the race for bringing their car thus those 2 individuals are bound to buy some food or souveniers as they didn't pay to get in. Secondly for the fans that only like racing a bit but enjoy looking at custom cars they come out and pay the entry fee to see the car show and also watch some racing. Again these people pay for food and such and buy admission to the track. These people start to tell their other friends about some of the nice cars and racing which may lead to more people coming the following weeks to the track.
I wish more sponsors would bring their product to the track. Like I tried to explain to Sirius Canada why don't they sell the units at the NCTS. They basically told me they had their booths at the events to promote the service and not to sell the units. I still don't understand how that makes sense. They could easily pack like 10 of each model in their minivan at the track and if 1 fan buys won don't the benefit from it. And as more people realize they could get the units there they start buying them. Apparently sponsors don't want to make a bit more profit by selling their goods to the direct people who want their product.
Except Barrie is too busy fighting Sunset to make anything of it....
Same rules at each and every tracks should better, specially for the first racing division, plus non-conflictual race-date, specially for major-events.
About 8-10 racetracks in Ontario with Late-Model, LLM or similar racing division but rulesets aren't the same. Pretty the same cars, but not same engine rules, shock, tires, weight, etc. ??? 😮 :-
We had this kind of problem in the past, in Quebec province. We had two different rules for Late-Model Sportsmen (LMS) plus CASCAR-Sportsmen.
Now, our LMS-Rules are under LMS-ACT sanctionning bodies and we have regularly 24-25 LMS-Teams at each events of the "TOURING SERIES".

Having same Late-Model rules... Still continue with Weeklies events...
Plus, maybe a TOURING SERIES of 10-12 race-events and some Special Events out of the Series...
Having same Late-Model rules... Raceteams could visit differents racetracks without any prob to change the complete set-up of the racecars by adding or remove weights. Just have to do the regular prep... Spring, Shock, tires, etc.
Somehow we need to bring in some modern thinking into stock car racing. Theres more to the automotive industry than just GM, Ford, and Dodge these days. What are today's hot-rodders running?
Maybe if you can appeal to the modern young man, racing will take an upswing.
Thats the first thing that springs to mind. But I've been chewing this over for a day or 2, so more to follow. (Busy as heck right now)
The whole answer also depends on what you're talking about...whether it be weekly racing or big series racing. Two different animals really.
I gave my opinion on the Race Tracks and what they need to do... Now the Cars...
Stock Car racing in Canada has gotten way out of hand with different rules, different series, different suppliers, and unpredictable car counts. My idea is 2 major Stock Car series in Canada, much like the Nextel Cup Series and say the Hooter Series.
Rule books must be written to ac comadate a general agreement amongst Race Teams and not the sanctioning bodie as they have no idea on how to keep the rules simple, and at the same time leave the door open so the Racer can race outside of that series.
CLASS #1- The Ultimate Race Car: Motor rules should be based on a max cost of $10,000 and should be controlled by parts and labour provided by 2 engine builders per manufactured automobile. Using 2 engine builders would be split into 1 GM builder in the East, and one GM builder in the West for example.
All motors must be dynoed by the Series Sanctioning Bodie and the results must be posted amongst the race Teams. Carb's must be owned by the Series, with a rental program of $250.00 per event and handed out by random draw. Tires should be capped by laps based on 4 tires per 100 lap event, so in short if you are racing a 300 lap event you can have up to 12 tires in your pit stall, new-used- or left over from the last event but capped at 4 tires per 100 laps. All ignition boxes must be owned by the Series, all 100% the same and same connections which should be handed out after the car has gone through tech, at a rental cost of $50.00 per event. The rule book should be agreed upon by the racers, based on a majority vote because you will never get everyone to agree on the same thing so majority is it. Every Team will own a car that is complete with a cap of $40,000.00 including motor. There must be a claimer rule for engines as well as cars to keep the cost in line. Claimer cost for the motor $10,000. and the Claimer cost for the car $45,000, keeping the numbers close enough to money put out, as well establishes an amount that will cover replacement costs. All cars in Class 1 will run everything from 200 lap races to 500 lap races. Guaranteed money to win $10,000.00 and $500 tow money.
Class #2- The Saturday night Racer: Same as above except the motor cost cannot exceed $7500.00 and the chassis cost cannot exceed $30,000.00.
The motors can be built by anyone, but the motors will be under scrutiny as far as Horse Power and Torque which is controlled by the Series. Again Claimer rules for Motor- $7500.00,
and the Car $35,000.00.
This series runs under the same rule book with options to allow the Teams an opportunity to save money buying over the counter parts, or used parts, but must be deemed legal only after inspection by 3 or more competitors in the same series. Cars will qualify in order and be given a equal opportunity by using a Speed Bracket number based on what they use in drag racing. The faster cars will be slowed by two methods. One- a smaller amount of fuel to assure a pit stop, and Two- a lower RPM Chip in the ignition box. ALL CARS MUST RUN THE SAME GEAR, and that is the reason a Chip deal can solve allot of problems and finger pointing. Class 2 will run everything from 25 lap races to 150 lap races. Guaranteed money to win $5,000.00 and $300 tow money.
Just my idea's....
