I believe Ranger won $9000 at riverside. I saw a $7000 winners purse at another race too
I beleive at some races the drivers are paid a percentage of the points fund money for where they are currently sitting in points at the end of that race. Possibly someone can elaborate more on that for me.
The NASCAR CTS deal is paying better then most as far as purse goes for racing in Canada, although its a far cry from what it should be paying for what it cost Teams to compete in the series.
The average CTS team will put out about $25,000.00 per event to race, and based on that you would think that first place should at least cover the expenses. If you take the NEXTEL Cup, Busch or Truck series payouts the winnings always payout more then the cost to the teams per event, and in most cases covers the cost all the way back to 20th spot. You can run a Truck team for the same cost as a CTS team, so why the difference in payouts ??
There are several teams that are ready to race that do not have sponsorship backing, and in turn are parked because of the lack of funds. If the races paid more you would see the car count increase from an average of 20 cars per event to 30 cars per event. I know people will say that money is added from the points fund, but lets face it, what matters most, A payout after the season is over that is split up amongst the have's that could afford to run, or would it be better to take 75% of the points fund money and inject it into the per race event payout.
I think this is something NASCAR needs to take a look at for 2008.
Adding 75% of the points fund into the race purse will attract allot more cars and teams, make the shows a full car field, give the fans and the track owners a better show, and help develop the programs marketing shares.
NASCAR did payout a percentage of the points fund at 3 different times of the year, but it was paid out to the teams that where in the shows form the beginning of the year. If the money was paid out on a per event basis there would have been allot more cars at each event, including ourselves, racing for a increased amount of money.
It's no secret, racers need more money when there racing, not at the end of the year when they are kicking stones.
'Just my opinion !!'
mid i dont what to start a fight, but points to ponder. average cup race pays out $400,000 dollar driver gets 40% that leaves 240,000 to the winner times 36 =8.6 million cost to run a cup time is between 15 to 20 million how does this equate to winning paying the bills?
A quote from an old post the last time midamerica was making similar statements. I think the cost per race for the Craftsmen Truck series is around $75,000 per race. In all of these series, it takes major sponsor $$$$ to compete at the top level.
As our buddy midamerica well knows, Busch races pay $50,000+ to win. Montoya made $125,000 in Mexico. I would expect the Montreal race to be in that range.
As he also knows, the purse has nothing to do with costs. The payout is based on the revenue received by NASCAR from the track, sponsors, TV, etc. The revenue that NASCAR receives from the Busch series is many times what they get from the CTS.
As he also knows, while the travel costs for Busch & CTS may be similar (probably not but let's say they are), the cost of running a competitive Busch team is far greater than CTS. If it costs about 30,000 per race in CTS (a number I have seen quoted several times), it costs around 150,000 per race in Busch.
Keep stirring that pot!
