Beautiful weather and a great crowd were on hand for what some people think was one of the best late model races in a long time at Flamboro.
Late models....and they were passing !
22 cars took the green with Scott Lyons leading the way as per the 8 car invert, and just a few laps into it Shane "the show" Maginnis was an involved car in a mishap and had to go tail. But following the restart he slowly picked his way to the front. Early in race fans would see a number of spins, the 22 of Jamie Ramsay ride on top of the pit side wall and save it and continue on to the finish but not be a factor, and 44 Steve Laking and 56 Greg Stewart crashing out in turn one.
But the highlights were starting about 1/2 way as Maginnis would finally catch Gary Elliott to take 3rd and then work for a number of laps to finally pass Jason Shaw for second. He tried for lap after lap to the cheers of many as he tried to pass Lyons for the lead. But coming out of turn 2 he got Lyons sideways and checked up himself, leaving the door open for Shaw who retook second. Shaw then made his challenge on Lyons a few laps later and took the lead with Maginnis following thru the opening. With about 15 or so laps remaining Maginnis squeezed Shaw high and the two raced almost door to door for a couple of laps before Maginnis took the lead for good to win the first race of the Grisdale Triple Crown.
The mini stocks had 34 cars tonight, Jason Shaw's son Dale didnt have as good a nite as dad in the feature hitting the wall hard in a nite that saw the wall take a few poundings. Rob Huskins a top runner had problems with his rabbit tonight, Dodge runner Jamie Watson bounced off the wall, points leader Willis Mahood's Volvo was dirt tracking with tire issues while Matt Dean had his Honda up to snuff along with the other honda of Parker Holman, but David Bailey worked his way to the front and won his second feature of the year.
Thundercars had 22 or 23 and 11 pro 4 modifieds, sorry I didnt see the results.
Thanks for the report jcrashm2, and your efforts are appreciated!
Sounded like a good show. We'll have to make a stop over at Flammy sometime this year. Haven't been since the WWS thing 2 years ago.
Thanks for the report. Sounds like Maginnis was really dialed in.
According to a post on the Flamboro chat site that there were some questions in tech, and that the "official" winner of the first Grisdale Triple Crown is still not decided, and wont be for a few days.
Updating thundercars, #27 Kevin Albers won the feature.
here are the unofficial results off the board from last nights Late Model Race:
