Well jcrash - if you have a better solution to having the cars lined up and ready to roll, I'm sure the staff would be more than happy to hear it - It really isn't a problem until something happens during the preceding race which causes a delay and drivers get tired of waiting - otherwise, it really does work pretty well.
Just to let you know - it is NOT necessary to buy a race-scan system - all that they said was that when they are lining up the cars after a caution and they call your number and broadcast what they want you to do - as long as the message is delivered to the driver and he/she responds in a timely fashion, that is okay. If you do not respond and take the position as instructed, you're correct to a point, if they ask you to move up and you don't, too bad - you just gave up position(s). If they ask you to drop back and get no response then yes, they will issue the black flag and stop scoring your number.
If you already own a scanner, a simple earbud is all that's required, program the frequency, lock it and go. Now if you're weight concious - the race-scan is pretty hard to beat compared to a scanner, but it's not like you must go out and buy it.
The reason is quite simple - speed up the show - and that is a plus for everyone.

Cheers,
Randy

Yes Randy myself and others have mentioned a better solution a few times but the track didnt want to do it. I feel bad for all the Latemodel guys and who ever is parked at that end when they line up 30 minis down there and they cant get to their pit area because cars are blocking them. I've seen some pretty frustrated and peeved off guys looking for the driver of a car from time too time who is up watching the last late model heat. And who wants to sit in a lineup waiting for 4 races on a hot July or August. So a number of times the cars enter the track in the wrong order and need to straightened out.
As for the radios, I understood from the meeting that they were mandatory and the rule book states "each driver, including Late models, is required to have a receiver capable of monitoring speedway control." If this is not the case, then I stand corrected.

The Racecievers are an awesome idea. Ohsweken and Merrittville use them and you definatly notice a differance. At the WoO Sprint show the Ministocks ran a 15 lap feature then immediatly following the track called our car numbers over the radio in reverse finishing order to reset the feild for another timed Feature and I've never experienced a race line up so smoothly. The $500 to win for each feature was good too.

I would use one at the track even if they weren't mandatory, which they should be, just because of how simple they make things.
