The #11 driver spoke up in a meeting about respectful and not tearing up eachothers cars. He stated there was too much contact and it was getting rough and cars were getting tore up.
My question is, is it ok to be rough and ripp guys up to win, but it's not ok if it prevents you from winning or gaining position?
It's a tough call but is it just? The 11 got to the 76 and made no attempts to pass, he simply drilled the 76. The 76 was clearly holding the line and the position was his. If this type of driving is acceptable who is going to pay the bills to repair the cars?
The call was made by Sharpie, he is the referee. Can you reverse the call the referee made? in my mind once laid it's played. The number 11 was fast enough to pass clean he sure went by us like a rocket!
Here's my take...and I had a pretty good vantage point to see it. It was an iffy call at best.
The 76 was clearly holding the line.
Gonna have to disagree there Jim. Going into 2, the 76 drifted high and Lidster just got him in the left rear. The hell of it is, Lidster likely would have gotten past coming out of 2 down the backchute even without contact. Its unfortunate for the 11.
The call, IMO, was borderline. Not as outrageous as the bonehead call on Mark Watson 2 weeks ago...but one that I might have let go - being the last lap.
Someone else said it, Lidster didn't wreck him. Not even close. That makes a difference. If Reid had gone off into the fence then the story might be different.
Having said that, I think its about time they started unlimbering the black flag once in a while. We're starting to get guys not coming back because we've been a little too permissive with the contact in the past. (see the thread 2 above with the 16 truck for sale for one example.) Contact is great for the fans, but there's drivers that signed on to race, not be a part of a bumper-car show.
Once it starts costing us cars on the track, it might be time to clamp down. And kudos to Delaware for doing so. Its only too bad for Lidster that they decided tonight was the night to clamp down.
I have to say I was wondering what the black flag on the 11 was for. When it came out I thought to myself what was that for? It can't be for the pass in turn 2! It looked to me that the 76 got into turn one a little too deep, the 11 was right on his bumper and when the 76 slipped up a bit in the middle of 1 and 2 then that was all the 11 needed. Could the 11 have hit the brakes a little sooner and a little harder....sure but it was the last lap! The brake pedal gets pretty hard to find on the last lap sometimes doesn't it?
Well you live by the sword and you die by the sword! As some posted early which contact do you flag a guy for? I recall he got his warning and Sharpie made a call. you're right Trevor about bumber cars, there's been a bit of that this year and I think the fans would have rather seen a bump and run win in turn 3 and 4. I told Jake before the feature he had work to do to get from 11th to the front. I also told him if you get into don't make it something someone is going to make a call on! We already got screwed once this year and took a hit in the points for it. Somebody once said: "If you don't want us to rule against ya, then don't give us anything we need to make a decision on. When that happens...neither side goes home happy."
We got scored last for the screw up the track did to us, by throwing us off without direction from the tower...we got a sorry but points loss was still there. Nobody cried for us so you know what suck it up pull up your socks and get back in there. BTW this aint cup racing with unlimited budgets and Dale Earnhardt don't race with us and Latemodel shocks cost more than Super Stock shocks. There has been allot of after the fact deciding going on rules lately and eveybody's not too kumbayah about it.
Lets just get on with some friggin racing.
I didnt see any of the 11 and 76 deal. If it really was just a bump and run on the last lap for a win-- thats short track racing! I dont really know the 76 guys, but I know the 11 group is a good bunch. The more frequent use of the blag flag for over-aggressive driving is a much needed thing. Its a crack down, of sorts. Things have been too rough in all divisions all year, and costing us too much money. This is nobodys fault, but the DRIVERS. Being a driver, you need to be tuned in once in a while. You tend to push the boundries more and more if you always get away with it. Once you get nailed for it a few times, your attitude will change quickly. Personally, Im happy to see the calls being made. If I do something to get flagged, thats racing, I deserve it. I think the officials generally do a great job. Split second decisions are hard to make, even more so when an incident could be perceived in a few different ways.
