What about this?

Some sort of limited sprint car division would be a better idea, if a winged open wheel class is the goal.  Sprint car chassis are much easier to find, and there are lots of bolt-on parts available for them.  The same cannot be said for Supermodified chassis, and that is one of the reasons that class at Cayuga didn't get off the ground.

At Sandusky Speedway in Ohio, another track that - like Delaware - once ran Supers weekly and now does not, they run 305 Sprint Cars each week.  A couple of area dirt tracks there (Fremont and Attica) also run basically the same division, and some of the drivers do use the same car to run on both surfaces.

My brother works in the pits at Delaware every week and says that there are some racers who think a limited/crate motor type sprint car class would be fun at Delaware.  Personally I really like the Modified division, but the car counts are never there for them...maybe trying something new could be an answer?  It would be tough to mothball all those Modified chassis though.

FYI the Limited Supers at Oswego are really not Supers at all.  They aren't much different than the Modifieds at Delaware, aside from different bodywork.  On the East coast in New Hampshire and that area, they run what they call "small block" Supermodifieds, which are real Supermodified chassis with smaller tires and carburated small block engines.  This division has produced a lot of today's present day Supermodified drivers, including Friday night winner at Delaware Jeff Locke.

A crate motor sprint car class at Delaware would be a great idea. IMO

I worry about the imca style mods everywhere in the province Tom. I often thought it was too bad that the 12-14 UMP mods that run at South Buxton on Saturdays couldn't have been invited to the Friday night party at Delaware by some sort of rules amalgamation.
Right now-this type of mod (imca type limited mod) has been dropped at Kawartha, dropped at Sauble (which was once of the tracks that started the class), runs 8 car fields at Mosport and Varney, and is not impressing anyone with 11 car fields at Delaware.
I noticed one for sale and saw it said it had a 604 crate. Isn't that the lm engine. Why are they not using the 602 like a dirt sportsman? (Racer43-you can step in here anytime-LOL).
Part of the problem may be a unique rules package and no nearby tracks to run this type of car on alternate nights. The asking price for the used mod I saw on a recent classified was approaching late model territory.
ps-the limited supers put on a good show at Oswego on Thursday & some of the old chassis are definitely variations of the old Dave Dayton imca type car

Well once again here we are about the modifieds. I don't know what it is, but the mods never completely took off here. We may have has a season or 2 when we were getting 14-16 but the counts in the division have never been high.  I don't know if its primarily that Delaware has been a predominantly fender-car track for so long, or if they just have one too many divisions, or what it is. It's a great division.

Also, and just as what's happened in other divisions, I suspect that years of "rules loosening" has inched the division into a higher tax bracket. I know that a lot of those mods that we used to have didn't just up and disappear, they must be somewhere, and there must be a reason they're not here. I would suspect that the year they jumped to the "newer style" modifieds was the year the bottom fell out of the division, and I hope whatever mistake got made was noted so they won't do it again with any of the other divisions.
