Crash-i think you were thinking of the ROC mod tour race at Cayuga 8 years ago roughly. Hot afternoon with no advertising and back then they didn't have to worry about passports. I think they had about 16 cars.
There is an ROC race coming up at Lancaster (Dunn Tire-Buffalo) in early June so it will be interesting to check out the numbers. The problem is the ROC rules are designed so less expensive (but still costly) motors can be used than are common on the Whelan Tour. For an ROC guy to participate in the Whelan race is like bringing the proverbial knife to a gun fight and then the cost of permits, tires, etc might be discourgaging. For sure Chuck Hossfeld and Erik Rudolph from Ransomville NY will be there with their Whelan cars (Delaware will be almost like running locally for them) and I've been in touch with young Pat Emerling (from the Holland area) who will be there also. Pat has looked pretty good in SST mods in the last couple years.
I'm hoping also that perhaps one of the Zacharias fleet from the Elmira NY area will make the trip.
Couple PS's: Dunn Tire Park had their first regular mod show of the year last night and had 10 cars ( ex Whelan driver Jan Leaty won) and 17 of the SST limited mods.
Guess I'm just disappointed the way the GCR race seemed to have been scheduled almost as an afterthought. I believe in the old adage that "you should dance with the one that brung ya". Bringing in the mods is great but who do you depend on to bring in the crowds weekly----obvious answer

Mike,

Interesting thoughts and observations. Another factor is Transport fuel which is close to an all time high.

we were there and I thought it was a great show. Sure the car count was low, but that's ok. It was a great show. Great racing, great weather, and a fantastic finish with Andrew and his team pulling out a thrilling win. Not once in a 200 lap race was I bored or did I feel like I spent to much to get in. I'd go again and I will.   ;D

...
Double Header at Delaware sucked big time, waste of gas to go & who wants to watch such few cars "not I".
Problem with racing too many different rules for cars, thay need to get 1 set of rules and race where you want to.

I don't see how the low car count can ruin the race unless the team that you wanted to watch didn't show up....they was not 17 cars fighting for the lead so if there was 25 cars the front runners wouldn't have raced any differently. Instead of crying about the low number of cars talk about the great race the cars that were there gave the fans..you're actually insulting the teams that were there since you just ignore the great race they put on ..and your crying will not entice other teams to show up for other events...

well put justafan..... one positive to fewer cars is fewer cautions. I personally would rather watch cars at speed than cruising around behind a pace car for a third of the race. What we have seen for the past few years.
