I don't buy the scheduling as the reason we only got 17 cars. I think if we'd done it on Labor Day it would have been about the same.
how could you not buy it? guys aren't going to skip a points night at their home track to come run a 200 lapper, we were thinking of running at flamboro this year, if we did we wouldn't have been at the 200. there are a lot of different issues and i feel like scheduling is the main one, guys that are running for delaware points skipped it. it's way to early in the year to risk a tore up race car over a non-points event.
You have some great points there Gary, one concern i do have reading your post is the bit about Flamboro changing the rules to allow the Delaware cars. I have called a few times to find out what exactly what we need to do to come there.... no response!! Therefore we will not be coming to the first Grisdale race unfortunately. Last year at Oktoberfest I asked Mr Cox if bump stops were allowed, he said absolutely not!!! Walking back to my pit I had a peak under the hood of a LM and what do I see?? We have always enjoyed our visits to Flamboro with the LM but have felt that some of the staff there favor the local guys and I guess that can be expected. My point is its not just Delaware that has created this mess were in here. If either track really cares about the health of late model racing in Ontario why dont they just sit down together and hash out a set of rules for both tracks. They run on different nights and I think with a common set of rules both tracks could reap the benefits of the 40 plus late models we have. Not too mention how happy the folks in the grandstand would be!!
It may be worth mentioning that we have a bone stock crate and are happy with the changes Delaware is making to even the difference in engine packages. The main hurdle that I see in overcoming the differences in the two tracks is the tires, cant we somehow at least get together on that front?? I love the idea about the home and home shows by the way!!!!
I'm not aware we can't run bump stops, the car I bought over the winter, Shawn Chenoweths car, had them and I know others did as well. We're not running them, we're using other methods to get the car to work through the corners without tearing the shocks up. The only thing I know that would stop a Delaware car would be the big engine. I will talk to Donny this week about the bump stops.
My concern at Flamboro is anyone messing with the engine. If one of our teams touch the Crate they are gone for the season, not the night. There are rumblings that some are cheating, which I also will ask if Flamboro tech is going to check the engines closer. I don't think anyone is, but maybe they are in other areas.
I don't blame Delaware only for the lack of communication, it's a two way street. I think any ideas for 2012 need to be hashed out now and plans put in place to have some kind of rivalry....and promote it, and get sponsors. Food Banks really need help in the summer. This is a great opporuntity for the racing community to be involved in a very worthwhile cause.
We are planning to come on the Wednesday show to get autographs from Kyle and Kurt (if they will stop long enough) and at least make a showing for our sponsors that night. We're hoping to be in the race, not get wrecked and smoke the field....one out of four would be good. It should be a great night if the fans turn out again. Hope the competition is a little closer....18:5 last year, are you kidding?
Work on the Home and Home series from your end, maybe it could happen. Hope to see you on a Friday night when we're not racing on the Saturday.
So what is the tire deal for the kyle bush race ?? if a flamboro LM races does the team have to buy 4 delaware legal tires ?? I wonder if delaware speedway will use the rules that sunset speedway used last september.. they mixed in the LLM with weight breaks and it seemed to be evenly match..
Delaware can not afford to have a low car count again for the fans !!
